Baby carriers advice

Hi everyone, we are working on the registry and need advice for a carrier. I'm definitely getting a K'tan but looking for a more structured carrier as well - hopefully one DH and I can share. I know the ergobaby is great but so expensive. And the infant insert is extra! Has anyone heard much about the Chicco Ultrasoft Magic carrier, or others? Thanks in advance?

Biggest advice I can give you is to go to the store and physically put some on. I was shocked at how much I hated some and loved others. We ended up going with the BabyBjorn One carrier in mesh.

Thanks! We went to BRU last night and that was the plan, but I was surprised at how unfriendly it seemed to trying them on! Not the associates per se, but the boxes were like, locked down.

A lot of people swear by the Tula. if your into spending that kind of money, i have not much advice becuase i prefer the 40.00 Boba wrap.

I went to BuyBuyBaby and they had them on display (on special little mannequin holders) so that you could easily try them out. I'm surprised BRU didn't do something similar - maybe try another store?

Both my husband and I love our Ergo. If you watch Zulilly, you can sometimes get htem for about 70 dollars. We were not picky on color so we got a brown one off of Zulilly for 65 bucks. I have a larger chest and could not make the wrap carriers work, but the Ergo is perfect. Good luck!

My BRU had four or five of them on display as well, which was super awesome. Being plus sized, I really need that option to make sure the things would even physically fit. I'm going with the Ergo, but I may or may not go back for one more round, just to be sure.

I've got a Beco Gemini that I really like. I found it as an open box item on a cloth diaper site, so it was a bit less. DH can wear it too, no need for an infant insert and you can do front carries facing in or out, back carries or hip carries. You really do need to try them on to know what will work for you.

If you decide to go with something like a bjorn, or other narrow-base carrier, there are ways to make it more ergonomic, which will be more comfortable for you and baby (see picture below). You want baby's legs supported from knee-to-knee, which those carriers don't do on their own.

Any twin mom have experience with any of the double carriers? They are all over $100 and seem to only be online. I'm nervous to just buy one. Thanks!

My all time favorite is the BabyHawk. You can get them online. It can be worn from 5 lbs up to 35+lbs without an insert, front or back, and they have custom fabric options. This is my fourth baby, since I didn't need anything else I asked my mom for a new one of these with the custom double sided fabric option. Now I have a car Hawk and a home Hawk and I'm set!

I have an Ergo but wrapped when she was younger. I also love the Baby Hawks. I used my Ergo today actually with my 3.5 year old. So, while pricey, it has been totally worth every penny spent.
We don't use our stroller much.

Trying on different styles is a good idea. I tried a sling once and my son hated it! So now I have the k'tan and Ergo. The k'tan is great for the early stages and good for hands free kangaroo care. Once my son got bigger the k'tan hurt my back so we got the Ergo 360 which works wonderfully! It's a bit pricey but I was able to use a 20% bed, bath and beyond coupon at buy buy baby to get it.

I registered for the ergo because my sister was telling me it's the better option for comfort for larger people so I wanted my husband to be able to carry the baby as well when we go out during fair season! But I have a few friends that have them and love them as well! I hope someone gets it for us!

I had one of those wrap ones... I loved the idea of it.... I always struggled with wrapping it hahha leading to fear that the baby would fall out.... I ended up with a BabyBjorn and LOVED it!

The consensus is that the ergo is worth the money, so I think I'm reconsidering! I have a bad back so support is important to me!

I wrapped when DH was really little and then switched to an Ergo when he no longer needed the insert. I tried the Baby Bjorn and absolutely HATED it. My back hurt so bad and all DS did while in it was whine and cry. You just have to try different options and find what works for you. We got our Ergo from GILT pretty cheap (I don't remember exactly how much).

There are several FB groups you could join if you want to explore the huge world of babywearing. Babywearing 102 and Everyday babywearing are great groups for newbies.

I love ring slings for newborn to toddlers. And I'm a Tula fan. And IMO tulas are totally worth their weight in gold. I use the tula for my 19 DS3 when we go to sea world instead of dragging a stroller. I plan on tandem wearing my new squish and my toddler with either the ring sling and Tula or two tulas.

Tula, all the way. I strongly urge you to steer clear of the Bjorn. They're generally very uncomfortable for for the wearer and the baby, not to mention they don't hold baby in an ergonomic position so it's not very good for their hips. Carriers like this are sometimes referred to as "crotch danglers" because the baby is supported just under their crotch, and not the whole width of their seat.

We are obsessed with our Tulas, but Ergo and Boba make decent ergonomic carriers as well. You will be glad you spent the extra money. Moby/K'Tan is great too, but those are generally only used in the newborn/small infant period.

I know this is an old thread. And I totally commented earlier about loving my Ergo. Except I have found a new love. I purchased a BabyHawk Mei Tei today and tried it with my daughter, who is nearly 4 and 27 pounds. Amazing. That's my new recommendation. It was so easy to tie on and the support was phenomenal. It's good from newborn to 40 pounds as well.
