Maternity 21 - positive for DS

Has anyone else gotten a positive Maternity 21 test back... detecting Down Syndrome? I'm worried sick. I go for my amniocentesis in 2 weeks. Lots to read on this subject and the false - positive/negative results. I'll be 40 at the time of delivery and I know I'm higher risk as age plays a big factor in the testing and results/odds. Any help or advice is welcome! Thanks in advance.
(I did not have 1st trimester screening done or the NT neck measurements - not sure why... just clarified w/ my OB and she said b/c of my risk, them went straight for the Maternity 21 tearing)

Re: Maternity 21 - positive for DS

  • I was high risk for down syndrome as well, but my MaterniT21 test came back negative.  I am very sorry you're dealing with...I completely understand how stressful it can be.  I think the MaterniT21 test is like 99.something accurate, but it is still considered a screening test.  Your amnio should give you definitive results.  Good luck!

  • Big hugs. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. The maternity 21 is a much better test than the NT scan so it isn't necessary to do both. Hope you get good news from your amino.

I have a DS marker on the baby's heart yet the labwork did not detect anything. I am not worried because I will love whatever is meant for my husband and I. We decided to not do an amnio or further testing. And that is our decision. It can be very overwhelming. We are excited to meet our joy in August and are prepared for whatever happens. @ckanke T&P are with you for a great outcome. There are many false positives with Maternity 21. Stay positive.
  • I had a higher risk on my quad screen results. I did the maternity 21 drawn Tuesday and am waiting on results. I'll say some prayers for you!
  • One of my best friends tested positive and her daughter is perfectly healthy.

My sister-in-law has Down Syndrome and she is an AMAZING person. I love spending time with her and she's HYSTERICAL if you really pay attention to what she's saying.

    Good luck!
  • T&P, as others have said, it is possible to get false positives. Sorry you are going through this!
  • These tests can throw you for a loop. I have had friends who had tests come back with false positives. I also had a friend who was told everything was great according to the tests and ultrasound and her son ended up having down syndrome. He is the sweetest little boy and so full of joy all the time. T&P to you.

  • I had the Harmony and with no NT scan. Does Materni21 give odds or just postive negative? I hope all goes well with you amnio T& P for better news

  • I had a high risk result of my NT testing which they told me I had a 1:110 chance of my baby being born with downs.  After my next testing they results came back very low risk and changed it to 1:10,000 chance. it was the scariest weeks of my life, not knowing what to expect, driving myself crazy on google, crying constantly, on edge all day. It was terrible and wouldn't wish it on anyone. Getting the results back was the best news I have ever received in my life. I know how you feel and how scary it is but remember these tests can always be off.  There is still a lot of hope that this was all a false positive. I am sending prayers and positivity your way. Hang in there mama!
Always hold on to hope ❤
  • I have a cousin with Down syndrome and my best friends daughter also has DS. Both are beautiful happy little girls.
