  • I will be 19 weeks exactly when I get mine done. The wait is so long!

  • I do have to wait and it is driving me crazy :)
  • We won't get another ultrasound until 18-20 wks. We want what we are having to be a suprise but waiting that long to see the baby again sucks.
  • I know! at least I'm not alone. how many weeks are you now? I'll be 13w on Saturday
  • Yup! Its actually normal to find out at 20 weeks through an ultrasound. Usually you have to do the blood test if you want it earlier. I have mine scheduled for april 29th.... it seems so far away! I hate the suspense! Although it's much better than waiting until the baby is born!
  • I am pretty sure that we will be waiting, but I am OK with it. We have a NT ultrasound on Monday, but I'll be 12 weeks so I think that is too early. Also, I am pretty sure that it is a girl. I was right about the sex with my first pregnancy.

  • I also have to wait till my 19 week appt to find out. I didn't do any of the testing that would tell me early so I knew I would have to wait to find out.
  • yea, I had my nt scan two weeks ago so at least I got to see the little one and he/she was very active and test came back great
  • I'll be 20-21 when I get my ultrasound which is on April 30 - or - May 7. So long but worth It.
  • I have to wait until 18 weeks. My mom told me when I was in the womb, it was hospital protocol not to reveal gender at any point in the pregnancy. I'm impatient but it's actually a very recent phenomenon to know the gender of a baby before birth so whether we find out at 13 weeks or 20, it's pretty amazing!
  • I just scheduled our ultrasound today. I will be 19 weeks 5 days when we find out.
  • We will be 20 weeks when we get our next u/s. We are still going back and forth about whether we are finding out the gender or not though so it's probably good we have that time to figure it out

  • We have to wait until 20 weeks. I think our office does that to keep people from aborting because of gender. I'm 14 weeks today, so 6 more weeks! Haven't seen baby since our 7 week ultrasound. I'm thinking of asking for a 3D scan, we've never had one done before.
  • If I wasn't doing an elective US (not at my OB's office) next Friday specifically to determine the gender then I would have to wait until around 20 weeks. I'm impatient.
  • Normally yes 20 weeks is when the dr will determine sex, because they have other things they are looking for at that time as well. Many of the mommies have opted for the blood test , then some like myself pay out of pocket to a private place that specializes in early sex determination. You need to usually be at least 15 weeks before these places will schedule you because the babies external sex isnt fully developed until the 14th week. I will get to find out in one week i made my appointment so I will be 16 weeks. We are paying 70.00 and they give us a bear with the babies recorded heart beat ! I cant wait!!! you can google some places in your area ,the place I am going to is called Clearview

Edit: plus this place i go to has a reputation of never being wrong and a 100% money back guarantee of they are. 8->

I'm getting the same thing done next Friday! I also get a bear with the heartbeat. I'm so excited.
  • I too have to wait until 20 wks. I'm ok with that- I understand they look for any physical other issues then too and I want the fewest possible ultra sounds medically needed anyway. Do I sooooort of wish I could see the baby and know the gender sooner? Of course! But I am fine waiting :-)

Yay! I cant wait to check back here and see what your having!! This is so exciting
  • I have to wait four more weeks. I'll be nineteen weeks then. And it will be the first time we've had an ultrasound at all. I'm so excited!
  • Yikes! I didn't see this post! I just made one about the same issue. I didn't mean to repeat ladies. My little one decided to duck and dodge every chance it had so yes, I have to wait another month being close to 19 weeks for gender reveal.
  • Yep I have to wait until 20 weeks at the end of April. I'm so excited to find out :D

The 20-week scan is done at or shortly after 20-weeks to check for anomalies first and foremost. Checking for the baby's sex is a wonderful bonus. It is standard practice to do this about midway through the pregnancy and it will be much easier to see all of baby's parts.

You can always pay extra to go to an elective sonogram (non-diagnostic).

  • I also have to wait until 20 weeks until the gender ultrasound, and that will actually be my first ultrasound! I am fine with waiting until then for gender, I really just want to be able to see our baby. On the same note, we don't want to do more than are really necessary either.... hearing the heartbeat has been a lot of comfort and joy for us. I can't imagine the whirlwind of happiness at our 20 week appointment :D
  • That's normal. They usually determine sex at your anatomy scan which takes place around 20 weeks, but that is not the goal of the ultrasound. If you're feeling impatient you could always opt to pay for an elective ultrasound. Twenty weeks comes faster than you think though. :)
  • I'll be waiting till 20 weeks. My insurance only covers one ultrasound so they do it at 20 weeks since the baby is developed enough to get all the measurements that they need.
  • I'm thinking I'll have it at 20 weeks. I have an ultrasound every 4 weeks so maybe 16 if they are willing to show.
  • My doc does it at 20 weeks. But you can pay (of course) to have a 16 week gender reveal ultrasound. Needless to say I paid the 60 bucks and will find out in 3 weeks!
  • My doc told me they were 90% sure it was a girl at 12.... Not sure if I trust them.
  • My next ultrasound is at 18 weeks. Only 3 weeks to go!! We did an elective ultrasound with our first but decided not to do it this time.
  • I have to wait till 18 weeks. 17 more days. It's killing me waiting!
  • Grrrr. April 22nd. 6 more weeks wahhhh. lol.
  • I will be between 19-20 wks, getting mine done April 17!! A day after our wedding anniversary!

We won't be having another ultrasound until 20 weeks, but we won't be finding out gender until birth.
However with #2, they wouldn't do the scan until 23 weeks. That was so hard because I was so anxious.
  • I am due September 3rd and I am having a ultrasound April 2nd which seems like forever I pray for another boy to even it out. if it's a girl we would be happy as well

I get so annoyed when people call the anatomy scan a "gender scan." NO. They are looking at your baby's heart valves, brain stem, bone structure, kidneys, taking all sorts of very important anatomical measurements. Looking to see if there's a penis or vagina is optional and an afterthought. With DD we were team green and after an hour of marveling at our baby moving around while the tech thoroughly looked over every part of her, he asked if we wanted to know the sex and we said no. The genitals are the least important part of the scan. Hope for a healthy baby.

And yes, one ultrasound at 18-22 weeks is the norm.

    Eta typo
  • Yes i too have to wait..such a bummer. Im not about to shell out a bunch of money to find out earlier so i guess its time to pratice patience
  • Yeah, I'll probably be waiting until 20 weeks.

  • This is my fourth kid and I'm going to the same ultrasound tech in Costa Mesa and for $25 she is guaranteed %90 accurate on my baby sex at 13 weeks she was right with my first three soo yes I'm going back on the 17th of this month to find out the sex of this baby
  • I'm 14 weeks and 2 days and I actually found out the gender through a blood test. And My next ultrasound isn't until April 28th.
