is it too soon to be setting up nursery ?

So I've found out the sex of my baby at 13weeks using the panorama genetic testing ...it's a boy and I've already purchased the crib and put it together who else is getting prepared early?

Re: is it too soon to be setting up nursery ?

  • Nesting hasn't set in yet. I'm going to wait for that because I want to have stuff to do when that point does come.

  • I won't be able to find out the sex of my little one until I'm 19- 21 weeks!! I'll have to wait untill then to start the nursery! Only just 12 weeks now so it seems sooooooo long away!
  • We bought our crib!! It came today!!! We're going to set it up this weekend but aren't painting or adding any other furniture until after we find out the gender in 2 weeks!!
  • I say do it. Our house is a mess. So DH has the last weekend of March off. Then it's project clean. I know me and if the major stuff isn't done by Memorial Day weekend, it's all on him, lol.
  • I'm with you @myspecialkid! The baby room until now has been my junk/sewing/art room for the past 7 years. We also have a bathroom upstairs that was never finished when we moved into our house, and now that there will be a baby in the picture, we need to get that completed. We find out the gender next week, so I guess we'll start getting the baby room design together then. We already started on the other bathroom. #acobblerschildrenhavenoshoes
  • I scored a crib from a yard sale that was in great shape, DH couldn't wait to put it together but that's as far as we've gotten. We don't know the sex yet
  • We've started looking at cribs but will probably wait awhile before we actually start putting the room together.

  • Our friend is giving us her 2 year old Pottery Barn Crib. But we don't plan to set up a nursery until the summer. I understand why girls want to get started but for me, we just want to enjoy this and take our time :)

33 years old, Married Oct '11,

Summer '14: Diagosed with hypothryoidism, pollup, LPD, Low AMH, strong FSH.

BFP: 1/22/15. EDD: 9/23/14. Rainbow baby!

  • Yes! DH couldn't contain himself. We bought the crib and changing table because I'd gotten a bonus at work and wanted to make sure it was spent on that, but to my surprise, DH had everything assembled the day it all came in. And last night at Target he insisted we buy new curtains. It's really sweet how excited he is, but I can't help but still be nervous about jumping the gun. 13wks today and going in for my visit and an ultrasound!
  • I'm having the room painted next week during march break. We are moving and the baby will be sharing a room with my SO daughter who we have part time. I'm doing neutral tans and greys till I know the sex than I'll pick up accessories. My best friend has a beautiful white canopy crib that I can have but I'm debating if I want something new that will convert later.
  • I NEED to be, but haven't felt like it yet.  Hopefully in a few weeks.  We need to clean out all the junk out of dh's computer room to make room for baby.  We are putting his stuff in the hall closet and getting a laptop.  lol

I'm trying to wait till my next appointment at 19 weeks to start purchasing anything for the room. I've got my ideas ready, just need to know whether it's a boy or girl. Last night my husband and I sat in the soon to be nursery, and I explained to him my 'ideas' and 'wants', and was told that it all sounded reasonable lol. I'm sure I'll have to remind him of that comment once we actually start on the room...
  • I am 14 weeks 3 days i have zero energy to even research themes lol i will probably start around 20 weeks ...i think. I am hoping the nausea will be gone by then and I will have energy again soon
  • The room that will be the nursery has been a playroom since we moved into this house. So since we found out I was pregnant we have been moving the toys into a couple cube storage things in the living room. Luckily our living room is huge so we turned the whole corner into the kids corner. But the kids still take the toys back to that room and play in there so we are still breaking them of thay habit. We have already bought a corner changing table for the nursery and hubby put it together last weekend but I can also use it for my other 2 kids so that worked out. We won't buy anything else until the 20 week anatomy scan which is about 6 weeks away. And i still have a small baby shower with only my mom's side of the family which is what I have done for my other two also...but they will literally get me everything we need so I will most likely be waiting until after that to really go crazy with the buying.

I would like to start but my husband thinks it's too soon and is making fun of me :(. I'll give it one more month and I'll start on the baby room. I know I will be the one doing everything (painting, putting together the crib, going to stores to get stuff) and I don't want to rush on the end.
  • I don't think so. Do it while you have the energy because it won't last forever!
  • Psh we bought our nursery dresser like a month ago.. haha! We came across a great deal, and we're just waiting for the matching crib to show up at the Pottery Barn Outlet too. Never too soon! Our "nursery" is still full of crap though so we're working hard (or.. um.. husband knows vaguely he's supposed to be cleaning it out) to clear it out and we won't start painting for another 2 months when we have our anatomy scan
  • Go for it!! We picked the room and cleaned out the closet but have to wait for a garage sale in May to sell the bed and dresser in that room so we can't start decorating until then:( totes jelly of you right now!
  • Too soon? nahhh.....good for you. I'm a classic procrastinator and regardless of how excited I am to decorate a nursery- I will probably put it off until the last minute because that's how I am lol. I do at least want to wait until my gender scan at 20 weeks and we have to figure out where to store all of the stuff currently in that room. I see this being a drawn out summer project lol. Good on you getting an early start I'm sure it will be wise in the long run!
  • I'm not quite 12 weeks and we already have the crib put together and purchased a car seat (we found an awesome deal on a really nice gender neural one). Decorating the room won't take place until we know the sex, but if I already knew I probably would be :)
  • I really would love to start, but we're moving to a new apartment in May. I'll just overload my Pinterest board until then.
  • I would love to start setting up a nursery! I am in full on nesting mode right now, but unfortunately we are in the middle of moving and I have no nest to nest in! It is driving me a little crazy

  • As soon as I don't feel sick and have some energy I will be getting the nursery set up. We waited way too long to set up our first (I had her 3 weeks early and we didn't start the nursery until I was 36 weeks) and we didn't do a nursery for our second because we were moving when he was 5 weeks old. So I am very excited to do it this time

We have a crib being handed down to us from SIL, changing table topper from MIL, and my parents are giving us a dresser, all of which we have to go pick up at some point this spring after we remove the queen bed from the room that will become the baby's. The nursery is "decorated" meaning that I refuse to take all my husband's sports photos off the wall until we move in October (we also don't have space for storing them). I'm sure I'll be super excited after our baby's born because we won't be moving for a few years after this next one (I hope).

  • I haven't actually started yet but I'll find out the sex today and I plan on starting soon. I want to be able to take my time but still get it done while I have the energy to.
  • I ordered our crib today! I bought a white crib & changing table combo. We are having a girl (we have 2 boys already), so I'm decorating in pink, green and brown with Owl accents! Baby will be here before we know it!

Congrats! Is it a boy or girl?

  • We are 15 weeks and know what we're having but will wait until the 20 week scan before doing anything to the room or sharing more broadly with the world (aka facebook :)
  • We nabbed a crib at IKEA, and I'm painting it of course. When I found out we were expecting I aimed to start the nursery around April, and it seems like that's how things are moving along. I like having things done early and I know I didn't want to be really doing stuff in the last trimester so that's why I chose an early start. Plus we have vacation time, camp, and camping during the summer months. We don't know the gender yet, but I've already picked my colors. There will be little pops of pink if it's a girl.
  • I'm determined to buy my crib and dresser before the end of the month--Babies R Us is having 15% off nursery furniture and the set my husband and father fell in love with is ungodly expensive!!! The room is already a very dark blue (we had moved in and painted it recently as an office) but I think we're having a boy anyway. Even if it's a girl, she'll have a lovely blue and gray room. No gender stereotypes here!!!
  • We also took advantage of the 15% off at Babies R Us to buy our crib, mattress, glider, and pack n play this weekend. Figured I would want to do it by the end of next month anyways, so might as well take advantage of the 15% off! (I'm 14w4d.)
  • Not too soon! We might be moving & baby is going to share a room with us for a few months anyways, so we don't have much to set up :/
  • Oooh, all your responses make me nervous! We moved into this house about 3 1/2 years ago. Every room needs to remodeled, which we have slowly accomplished. We never did the spare room, though, so currently it is gutted down to bare studs. Hubby needs to rewire, insulate, and hang Sheetrock. While he was at it, he also tore out upstairs hallway, the stairway, and the entryway downstairs (they're all connected). Super nervous he's not gonna finish this project in time!!!

  • I wish! I still haven't found the drive to clean out the spare room/office so that it can become Baby's room. Sigh. It's a disaster in there!
