It's a written 40 page exam that is due April 1. And I'm not even close to being finished. Each time I sit down to write, I end up doing something else. Granted, if I submit on April 1, and it isn't up to par, I still have until May 1 to make revisions. I know in my heart it's best for me to push through because I hope to be feeling good soon. I just didn't want to submit a crappy exam on April 1 knowing I didn't give it my all.
And you're right, if I end up with a non-sleeper, I may be even more exhausted than I am now.

I totally get where you're coming from. You want to make sure your work is good and not rushed along. That's excellent. I would recommend setting aside time that you can't get interrupted. I had an extension I downloaded for chrome that I could set up some websites to be blocked during certain hours, or would allow a 10 min break every 2 hours - something like that.

I also noticw that if I take my dha supplement, I am much more focused. Try looking at the amount of work you have to do with the amount of time. Do you think it's doable? Can you talk to your adviser?

  • PhD candidate here in data collection mode. This is my 3rd baby and I've had the other two while in school. I've found the flexibility of the academic schedule to support our family rather than disrupt it. It's far from easy, but I wouldn't do it any other way! I'm going to start my job search in the Fall.

  • Yes, I took a couple vacation days from work so that I can work on it with no distractions. My chair/advisor basically said, I MUST submit a "good draft" by April 1, and I have until May 1 for revisions. But there are no extensions. So I have to submit on April 1 :( or withdraw and start over next Spring. Which will set me back a year...I'm going to keep pushing at it and try to get it submitted.
  • @TheatreStar86 I will have 2.5 yrs left to go part-time. I just started last fall and had to take a LOA due to my mothers cancer. Life is so full of ups and downs. Trying to take it all in stride...

In my very humble opinion as a 4th year PhD student who passed my comprehensive exams a year and a half ago and (verrry slowly) writing my dissertation (through 1st trimester symptoms) as we speak, I would suggest powering through now and not waiting until after the baby is born. Just try to do as well as you can by May 1. I would guess you will feel SO much better having this milestone behind you instead of worrying about it through your whole pregnancy. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice and encouragement. And yes, you all are right. I need to keep going, because I may have other obstacles later on....
