Is this an option or am I wasting my time? I'm looking for 40ish hours a week stay at home so I can be with my son after he is born. Anyone know of any companies that do this? I'm starting to feel hopeless and can't really afford child care.
I doubt you'd be able to work from home and care for your child full time. I wanted to do this with my first but didn't realize how ridiculous it would actually be to try. It's really hard. You can really only work when baby is napping. The only way to work and earn money and watch baby is to nanny. So I quit my accountant job and started that. Now I can earn money and be with my child, while caring for other kids too.
I work from home full time - I was in the division for 5 years when I had my first. my days are v full so I have a full time nanny 5 days a week - but i get to have lunch with my son most days - and i don't lose time with a commute so i get to play up until i start work (800) and as soon as I wrap (500) and then my team is great about not expecting a return call or email btw 5- 7 but after i put my son down i often have more work to do... not sure how it will be with 2! but i am very happy about my situation... i was able to BF my son most of the time too since i was home and expect to do that again (I hope!)...
i need to add though that it would not work without our nanny - i can't get anything done with my 2.5 year old (and I don't want him seeing me on my computer/phone when we are spending time together, if at all possible)
I'm a hairdresser and planing in working from home, like the fact I can work my job around suiting mine and babies needs also lucky with the hours my husband works it'll make it easier .... We are first time parents so I guess we will see, the best thing is to find something you can do from home and maybe not putting the pressure on to work 40 hours a week I doubt you'll have that much time without serious help from family, friends or a nanny wishing you all the best hope you find something that works for you and your family xx
As pp said there is just really no way to work at home FT while also watching your child. I mean if it were that easy wouldn't most people do it? Who wants to pay for childcare?
I watch another LO in our home full time. For us it's the best of both worlds our children have a buddy and I make enough to supplement DH's income while still being at home.
Ditto PPs that working from home full-time with a kiddo just isn't realistic. DH used to proof online grocery ads as a side job for maybe 10 hours a week, so I could see something like that maybe working since it was just a pile of ads assigned to him to finish by each Wednesday, so he could get that done anytime from Thursday to Wednesday.
But I think something like that is pretty rare and wouldn't come close to full-time. I work from home a few days a week, and I have to be on calls, on video chat, sharing desktops, etc., and there's no way I could do that with a little human interrupting. My dog is disruptive enough.
