I have a few because different occasions call for different bags. I even got a backpack for football games. Not like a kids backpack but anyway I love Vera Bradley and even the look alikes on Amazon. They come with multiple bags.
Pottery Barn Kids have really nice selections... And also Coach... I liked one that doesn't scream "diaper bag"... I cringe when I see grown women carrying a Winnie the Pooh diaper bag!
I had bouts of insanity where I spent hours looking at Burberry and Louis Vuitton bags online. I convinced myself I was going to buy a used one before my friends called me insane lol. But I don't want a Winnie the Pooh diaper bag!
Vera Bradley has a bunch of cute ones ... And they are machine washable!!! I've gone back and forth on that one and a skip hop one ... And ended up going with the Vera Bradley because I liked the pattern!

I cringe when I see grown women with anything Winnie the Pooh. Heck, I won't even allow my kids to have any WTP crap. But that's a whole new thread.

Oh please start that thread! I can't stand Winnie the Pooh .... Character things in general make me cringe! I have accepted character underwear and pajamas for my toddler because I have to . But I draw the line there!
I have a skiphop that I like - they have lots of styles and options.
I'm a FTM so I haven't used it yet but I got a skip hop that has nice storage on the inside and outside of the bag. But again I'm a FTM and haven't used it yet so take my info with a grain of salt

Yes!!!! I let my 5 yr old have character pj's & undies, but that's it. No character shit up in this house. Ha.
I registered for a DadGear messenger style diaper bag cause I wanted dad to not be embarrassed if he was out with LO, and cause I'm a tomboy / hippie type and I don't like a lot of patterns or designs. It doesn't scream diaper bag but looks like it can handle what I intend it to. Also since its messenger style I can wear it cross body and scoot it behind my butt so I'm not tilted over to one side by the weight of all the stuff in it
It's not a real diaper bag, but aside from the changing pad, I don't know what else makes a diaper bag a diaper bag. I haven't seen it in person so it might not work, but the dimensions seem to be about the same as many diaper bags I've checked out. May have to return it, but I hope not!
My biggest thing is why spend more than 40 bucks on a diaper bag really do we have to go high end and spend hundreds on a bag that will get puked on or poop diapers put in it or spilled milk...really?

I don't know if the price matters but I did want something I wouldn't be embarrassed to tote around for 2 years!

Well, you don't NEED a diaper bag at all. You can use an old backpack you have, or put the stuff in a canvas grocery/tote bag. Or plastic bags.

Plastic bags.... Not sure if you meant to be funny but I can't stop laughing

DH and I were at REI looking for a Timbuk2 messenger bag and he accidentally wandered into the maternity section and came back with an "awesome" bag with bikes on it and what he thought was a laptop sleeve. It was a diaper pad. Still makes me laugh!

Wait, they have a maternity section at REI? How have I missed that?
I'm not sure if it's really an entire section, but it was definitely a Timbukt2 diaper bag I think it was a small area that had some overall "outdoorsy mom" stuff. It was right next to the bags, I can see DHs confusion...
I had a Petunia Pickle Bottom and DH had a Jujube. We each loved our own for different reasons. Both had wipe off fabric though on the outside which was important. Probably getting a new Jujube for this baby.
I love some of the Kate Spade diaper bags (they look more like normal purses) but since DH will be using baby's diaper bag too (realistically, he'll be using it even more than I will), I went with a more classic Pottery Barn one. Happy shopping!
My friend was telling me also about the baby cargo georgi diaper bag... I was looking at them and they seem pretty practical for on the go on the stroller and have tons of room and pockets too. Now I can't decide either!!! Haha
I too looked at all the designer bags. I carry designer purses so why wouldn't I carry a designer bag. For cost reasons, I went with a Kate Spade Stevie bag. I love the look but it isn't huge. I say it is the size of an average bag. I'm not a light packer so I usually have another bag for toys or whatever. I also have a really cute bag michael kors bag from to max that I use. It is bigger and patent leather so it wipes clean. The key is to make sure it has outside pockets. You can buy a changing pad and clip on bottle holder so any bag can be a diaper bag. I hate all that Patunia/Bradley/31 crap.

A girl after my own designer handbag loving heart!!
Anyone look into diaper bags that are backpacks? I thought with a puss and a baby, it may be more practical ands better on my back. No designer names required here. They don't do much for mem
I got a deal around Christmas on a Skip Hop bag. It's the grey and white one. I love it! I never had a "diaper" baginal with my twins...just a backpack.
I've wanted to start using it just as a purse so i can enjoy it before a baby takes it over but i also don't wanna wear it in too much before i need to use it for it's actual purpose lol I definitely think i want to register for one that's a little more Daddy-friendly to carry around.
ETA *A quick argument for the case of splurging on Coach bags... they're customer service is AMAZING! I've been a loyal Coach lady for years because of it. I've had bags break because of my own dumbness and they've replaced it for a 100% brand new bag. I've had others that have just gotten old and worn that i've sent in to get fixed and if they haven't been able to fix them, they've sent me coupons for a new once (hence the 40% off for the baby bag). I don't work for Coach but i feel like i should with the amount of times I talk up how awesome they treat their customers lol). It makes me feel better when i decide to drop some cash on an expensive bag ESPECIALLY a baby bag. If the kid wrecks it, i know i wont be shit out of luck hahaha
I've spent so much time researching and looking in stores & online at diaper bags I think my eyes are crossing. I have no idea how many pockets I'll need or what I should go with. I'm still at ground zero with this. Ha! It makes my brain hurt 8-}
I'm a designer purse girl all the way. My mother gifted me a Gucci diaper bag that has wipeable fabric. It doesn't look like a diaper bag which I love. My husband said he refuses to use it though lol.
I got a custom one and I love it I couldn't be happier I got it throw website from a girl who's on Etsy on Facebook I don't know if I come share the information without it being sam so if you would like me to please quote this comment and I will come back and give you the info I can't get to my Inbox
I wanted something hands free and washable. There is nothing worse to me than a diaper bag continually slipping off your shoulder when you're trying to schlep a car seat etc. Vera Bradley had a huge sale and I got a backpack diaper bag for $60..definitely a steal. I barely use my designer purses because I'm afraid of getting them dirty so I definitely knew I couldn't get an expensive diaper bag because I'd cringe every time I got some spilled milk or crushed up goldfish in it.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
I got a Petunia Picklebottom Abundance Boxy Backpack during the outlet sale for half off. It's freakin' huge. Lol. I'm an overpacker. I'm sure we will need the space.

Any chance you know about when they do the outlet sales? I'm signed up for the emails but I'm so antsy and afraid I'm going to miss it! I really want one of the boxy backpacks!
Thanks ladies for your advice and opinions. I've decided to go with Skip Hop for many different reasons (price, size, color, easy to clean, # of pockets, plus it comes with 2 additional items, etc).
Re: need help deciding on a diaper bag
I just decided on this one:
