App recommendations for 2.5 yr old?

Does anyone have any app recommendations for a 2.5 yr old to play on an iPad?  I like to let him use my iPad when we are out to dinner so he doesn't completely terrorize the entire restaurant Lol.  Preferably a game that is fun, but that he will also learn something.  He loves the EduKidsRoom app and he has gotten so good at the puzzles and matching games in it.  Any recommendations for apps your kiddos like?  Thank you!

  • I don't let my son use the iPad in restaurants but I have to admit, I did recently let him bring it to the grocery store so I could make it quickly through without complaint or him grabbing stuff off shelves while I was trying to read labels. That being said, he likes any apps having to do with learning construction vehicles (most have a coloring and puzzle component) and more educational, he's very into the Elmo ABCs, Elmo 123s and there's an app called Wubbzy's something or other that he really likes playing the ABC and letter tracing games. He likes the Thomas the Train app and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood app, too. With young kids' apps, I feel like you're almost hard pressed to find one without some sort of educational component.

  • We don't give DS an iPad in restaurants either. I'll usually color on the kid's menu with him or engage in conversation which keeps him satisfied until the drinks and food come out. He likes Elmo like a PP suggested and any ABC or numbers games.

  • If giving your child an I Pad while at a restaurant works for you, then GO for it......

Disney and Nickelodeon have some good apps for their shows. DD (almost three) likes the Paw Patrol game. Otherwise she loves memory games and puzzle games.

  • I have games on my kindle for the kids. I don't use it at restaurants though. Most restaurants have crayons and if my kids are antsy I'll ask for some crackers for them.

I like a couple 22 learn games, PBS kids, and an ABC letter app that let's you trace letters and color pictures.
  • Do whatever works for you. I am not opposed to it as I used to give my son my iPhone to play his games/apps when we would go out to eat or if we went somewhere that had a waiting room to occupy his time. Now he has an iPad so he just uses that.

Some apps he loves on his iPad:

SPROUT -  (same as the TV network) He loves to watch The Chica Show and Caillou on there.
DISNEY APPISODES - (you get one free appisode but its $4.99 to download the others. This app is pretty cool because its interactive. Mickey Mouse will ask you questions and wait for you to verbally or physically respond.
PHONE4KIDS - has a lot of activities within the app.
    ABC ALPHABET
TEACH ME TODDLER - Teaches Letters, Numbers and Shapes. Keeps track of your child's learning
BIBLE FOR KIDS - Download bible stories for your kids to understand and follow. Each story is animated and various things happen on screen when you touch certain things. It even quizzes the child with yes and no or true and false questions.
ANIMAL PUZZLE  - My son was putting puzzles together since age 1. This was one of his favorite most used apps!
WHEELS ON BUS - has a variety of activities from within the app.
ABC MOUSE - This is the app from ABC Mouse.com. I paid for the annual membership to have access to all the learning materials on their website. Once you log in with their app, your child can continue right on with everything they were doing when they used a computer. My son LOVES ABC Mouse!!!!

Hope this list of apps helps you out!

Oh yea my son is 3 now and will even attempt to play one of my games on my phone which is ASPHALT 7 (A high speed driving/race game). What is impressive is he can complete the race every time too! LOL!
  • DS has his very own iPad. I limit the time he spends on it, but I thoroughly encourage him to use it, and it blows my mind how well he can use the thing all on his own (he just turned 2)!!!
    As far as apps:
If learning is your objective, then nothing beats ABC Mouse.com- every single thing on there (and there is literally TONS of content) has a learning objective, but still feels like play. I can't wait to see his progress over time!
DS absolutely LOVES all the Sago Mini apps!! I wish I would've bought them sooner! They're much more playful, but still have matching, social aspects, cause and effect, etc... And they're adorable. Totally worth the dollar or two.
PPs mention Daniel Tiger and Phone4Kids- also some of his favorites, along with Lego Duplo Train, Tony the Truck, Car Puzzles, Peppa's Paintbox, Lazoo Squiggles, etc.
After I download an app, I always play on it by myself for a few minutes, to get the feel for it (and automatically delete it if its littered with ads, links, etc.).
If your child likes a certain app, you could check out other apps made by the same company, or go to the App Store and check out the "Related" suggestions... You might find some winners.
