Mother's Day Out

DS is 12 months old and just started in the one year old room at a local mothers day out. Its only two days a week; five hours a day. He just had his first week of it and it didn't go great. The first day he didn't eat much and didn't sleep at all and fussed all day long. Today he ate a little more and slept for about 45 min which is better, but he still fussed all day. I think its part separation anxiety and part he's use to 2 naps and there he gets one. The teacher suggested we start getting him up in the morning at 6 instead of 7(when he normally wake up) to help with switching to one nap. Just wondering any advice on helping to adapt to a mothers day out or daycare schedule? Should I get him up earlier? I just hate picking up my baby when he's sad and they say he's been fussy all day. Thanks for any help

  • forgot to mention his current bedtime is 8 and wakes up at 7

  • You're only 1 week in and 2 stays with them.  Most babies take 2-3 weeks to adjust to DC.  I wouldn't alter anything else in LO's routine right now.  Give it a couple weeks and then if LO hasn't adjusted well, look at his wake up time (though I don't know why getting him up earlier would make it any easier...)
  • I agree with the PPs and wouldn't alter his schedule yet. DS2 just began a MDO program and goes 2 days a week for 3 hours a day. He is still solidly on 2 naps a day except on the days he attends MDO and then he only gets 1. I'm in no hurry to switch him to one nap and will follow his lead. If he naturally drops it on his own, great! But if not, it is no big deal to me. He sleeps 7pm-7am with 1 2.5-hour nap and 1 1-hour nap. It will take a couple of weeks for him to adjust to new caretakers and the new environment but then he will get into the swing of things and into his own little routine at MDO. Give it time and don't rush to change things...this is already a BIG change in his little world so there is no need to throw yet another big one in at the same time.
