polyhydramnios

36 wk ultrasound and appt was today and I have polyhydramnios, a large amount of amniotic fluid that's above normal range. I had no idea this was even a thing. 1% of pregnancies have it. The ultrasound was good and baby got a perfect score but this still puts me on edge. They are now going to do an ultrasound every week until he's born to monitor him. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: polyhydramnios

  • My coworker did. Her doc did a few extra tests and ultrasounds and everything looked good. She had a healthy baby boy with no complications!

I have it... 2x a week NST monitoring. So far everything seems ok. Another ultrasound tomorrow to check fluids. 38.5 weeks.
  • Most of the time it's not a big deal. They just want to keep an eye on things. I have heard that if things become concerning, they can try to drain the excess fluid, or they may just induce. Either way, since they are staying on top of things, you and baby will be fine.
