Baby Names

Too Unusual?

I'd love some honest opinions on:
Oriana
Saoirse
Eliana

TIA!

Re: Too Unusual?

  • Eliana seems ok. Not a fan of Oriana.
I have absolutely no idea how to even attempt to pronounce Saoirse... Seems like a name that your child will have to correct for its entire life, both pronunciation and spelling.

I like Eliana. Saoirse is pretty but unless you live in a very Irish community, I agree that she would have to correct a lot of people. Not a fan of Oriana. Makes me think of Oral.

My friend named her daughter Saoirse. I know how to say it. Her friends know how to say it. Strangers have no idea. (Seer-sha for those who dont know) it's a beautiful name.

  • Eliana is very popular where I live. theres 3 or 4 in the infant rooms in the daycare/preschool I work at
  • I love Saoirse. I really like all Celtic names with traditional spelling. Oriana reminds me of Orion.

    Eliana is ok.
  • If you're Irish, Saoirse is fine, if you're not Irish, it kinda looks pretentious.

    I really don't like Eliana.

I like Oriana the most of the three, but she's a fairly popular character in League of Legends, which might bother you or not. (They spell it different wrong.)
  • Thanks, everyone!  I appreciate the opinions.  @wassuphoes, when I think Oriana as a video game character, I actually think about Miranda Lawson's baby sister from the Mass Effect series. :) A LoL reference won't bother me.

    I like Eliana!!
  • I love saoirse!!!! love and im not irish!
  • I'm Irish & I love love Saoirse but hubby vetoed it. I say use it!
  • Eliana is nice.
  • Eliana is nice. Saoirse is going to be one of those ones that not many people will know how to say, which will be confusing and kind of frustrating after a while. I didn't even know until someone posted the pronounciation earlier.
  • I like Eliana but not the other two.
  • I like them all and I've known kids with all those names.
