Confused about take away

Hi All, I'm 8w 2d and this is my first pregnancy. I've been doing a lot of reading ( not sure if it's a good thing) and I am so confused when it comes to take away food, what I can and can't have? I really want a Big Mac!! Can anyone shed some light or share experiences?

  • Basically they just want you to atay away from raw meats and seafood with high mercury in it... other than that eat all you want and enjoy your pregnacy....
  • Eat whatever you want. Lots of people don't follow rules and have healthy babies everyday.

  • I've never seen anything with restrictions on takeout food, sounds strict!  You'll read lots of differing "advice" out there, just stick with what your doctor recommends.  The fact that you're doing so much research means your baby is already on track for good health, and lucky to have such a caring mommy!  Go get your big mac!
  • The only bad thing about take out is you do put your life in someone else's hands when you eat out. Okay this may sound extreme, but I just wouldn't eat at shady places where they may not follow all safe food handling procedures. I've taken a sanitation class about food borne illnesses and people don't realize how easy it really is to get someone sick with their carelessness (not washing hands, cross contamination, etc). I would just be cautious but like pp said, lots of people have healthy babies while not following all the rules :) maybe look up health violations for restaurants you go to to make sure they aren't repeat offenders. I've had food poisoning before and can't imagine having it while pregnant!
  • My MIL when pregnant with my husband drove 80 miles every day to the nearest McDonalds to get a Big Mac because that's all she wanted. There's a reason you crave things while pregnant. If you can't find a healthier substitute, indulge! Even if you're 5 months along and you just need one sushi roll. Go to a reputable place and dig in. In strict moderation, sushi is very good for you.

  • The only thing you can worry about with take out food is the salt.  My doctor suggested minimizing my salt intake.  That's the only thing I can think of!

  • Thanks everyone for their input!! Much appreciated
  • My feelings are that if you didn't ever get sick eating from the restaurant before you were pregnant, it is probably safe while you are pregnant. I just ate my tacos from a taco truck because that is all I wanted.
