The 1 hour test is a joke. They canceled my appt and were able to squeeze me in the next day. Of course, I didn't know about the new appt until the hour before and had cereal/coffee that morning. I also had ice cream the night before.
Well I failed. Meaning I got 135 when the cut off is 130. Everywhere online says 140. I know from taking care of my diabetic brother growing up that 135 is not a bad blood sugar level. It's when you get closer to 200 where you should be worried. My coworker got 138 and declined taking the 2nd test. Needless to say I will also be declining the test. I don't have the pto days to waste because the hospital wants to pad their wallet with lab fee reimbursements from insurance companies.
Different states have different levels. In MN its 140 but other states is 130. With DD I got 131. My doctor wanted me to go get the 3 hour because I would have failed in other states and am overweight but I declined.
I ended up doing the 3 hour test bc my doctor made me feel like a terrible person for not doing it. I did it on Friday and it ruined that day (was shaky and tired all day) and I was out of it all day Saturday. Just got the call that i do not have it. Yah, no kidding doc.
Apparently I failed my 1 hour test mine was 147 and I have to do the three hour test. I am nervous I mean idk what it means exactly. I've only gained 14 lbs and I'm almost 29 weeks now.
For everyone stressing out over 130 and 140 readings, please be assured! You and your babies will all be fine I'd gladly trade you numbers infact... lol. Type 1 diabetic here and while my diabetes has been very well controlled, my numbers still do spike every now and then for unknown reasons. I was having a rough couple of days last week and was having a hard time bringing my sugars down from 180+ and the doctor didn't at all seem to be too concerned at my appointment. Said to not stress myself out over it, I'm obviously doing the best I can do and stressing will only make it worse. Said some people have gestational diabetes undiagnosed and their pregnancies go on just fine with healthy babies. 140 is what all of my doctors want my levels to be under 2 hours post meal, so if you're floating around 130/140 I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. Your baby won't develop any birth defects this far along. It's mainly a larger baby they're concerned with at this point from excess sugar but rarely in gestational diabetes is it a huge problem.
Your body should be able to compensate with natural insulin regardless of what you eat. If it can't then you probably have gestational diabetes. It's not really about how much sugar you eat before the test, even if you eat a ton your body should compensate. Fasting could give you a false negative and most doctors now do not recommend fasting. Some still go by the old recommendations but it all depends. Either way like I mentioned your body should be able to cover any amount of sugar that goes into it, if it can't then there is a problem.
My 1 hour test is in the morning and I'm scared, once a long time ago I failed the frist one and had panic attacks over it. Trying to stay calm. Anyone else having issues like this?
Did the test today.. the drink was tolerable but definitely WAY too over bearing. I almost threw up.. then the nurse said I'd have to do it again and I was like.. nope! I'm holdin this bad boy down!
Lol. I'm nauseas just thinking about the drink :-L
I have mine tonight and feel super lucky that my MW practice has you drink 50g of sugar via organic apple juice! Still nervous I will fail and have to take the 3 hour.
When does one usually get the results from the test?? I took mine nearly a week ago, last Wednesday and haven't heard anything, good or bad. Mid I had failed I'd assume I would've heard by now to reschedule but I may be wrong??

took the test yesterday and they just called me saying it was normal.. they should have called by now I'd think
Thanks! I definitely thought I would've heard by now. Isn't there a certain time frame you have to take the test in that if they wait on the results much longer I may miss?
