I babysit from my house in nevada. I make 300 a week, 10 an hour. No paid vacation or sick days. Which is fine but thats on the higher side. You usually only make about 2.50 to 5 an hour around here. I just got a job with a doctor, which is why I make good money.
I know I'm one of the city people paying an ungodly amount of money for child care.... but some of these low prices (<$500-600/month!) make me feel nervous. Are you being nickled and dimed elsewhere, for example do you have to bring food for children eating solids and do they have a learning curriculum that they teach?</p>
It's $27 a day for me and they provide everything except diapers and they teach preschool and rates drop as they get older.
Central NJ here... just looking at centers and it's like 1400-1600 for full time which is like double my rent. Wish I qualified for government help with child care. It's like you can't win if you're middle class in this state.
I'm in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Hourly rates are on average $50-$75/hr. I am finding most monthly rates start at about $1000/month and go up. It depends on the area here, too. My neighborhood is definitely on the higher end of the spectrum.
Just to give you all more of a shock, in Australia here and a friend of mine was paying over $1000 per fortnight for her 3 year old and 6 month old to be in daycare three days a week. It was $220 PER DAY for them both! You get 50% back from the gov but that's not til the end of the financial year, she was essentially paying almost her entire salary in daycare. If you have two kids, quite a few people are in this situation. Wages here are very high, a nanny or mothers help would be $25 per HOUR so $250 per day, with no government rebate. I'm on my second and the only reason we will be able to afford me to return when this one is two as we plan, is because there is a six year age gap between kiddos.
Re: Average price of daycare where you are?
£160-170 per week for full time care
£21 for half a day
£35 for a full day
Just lurking from May, but can't believe how pricey some of this childcare is!
