Anyone think about vaccination?

i know that vaccinations are helpful but giving my child up to eight vaccinations at once scares me. Anyone else concerned?

  • Oh god don't start this one again! Search it, it was a huuuuuge post recently and gets heated. Don't say I didn't warn you. P.s. Vaccinate or GTFO.

Vaccines are important. They save lives. I don't get why this has become such a huge debate after the eradication of polio, smallpox, and other deadly and debilitating illnesses. Especially given the overarching research and the stance of basically the entire respected medical community that you should vaccinate.

And, it's not 8 vaccines at once.

  • I didn't know people were still wasting their breath debating this topic! I'll definitely be vaccinating and we already had a huge trip to Disney world planned for September, if my kid gets sick because someone didn't vaccinate their kids I will lose it!

Fun! We live 2hrs north of Orlando and have season passes. I love going just as much as my daughter. Do you both plan to go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party? It is Sept 15-Nov 1 this year. Tons of fun!

We are considering it! We have gone the last two years and seem to have a new tradition created- last two times were in June- but with a April (or March) baby I think it would be pushing it for me so trying for cooler, less busy time! (3.5 year old twins too). I wish I lived closer! I could LIVE there and eat at EPCOT every night! Oh please ship me some! :)
  • I am not concerned. My daughter will be getting all her vaccinations as scheduled.

I'm so jealous of those going to Disney!! Can't wait until this LO is old enough to enjoy it so we can take a family vacation!!
  • Here is some good information on how vaccines actually work in your body. There is a nice explanation for why so many vaccines do not overwhelm the immune system.

  • I couldn't be more pleased with these answers.

I am pleasantly surprised/pleased with these answers as well. I was expecting a train wreck when I saw the title of this thread. I'm still kind of expecting one but at least it was a good start. ;)

I'm desperately hoping people are going to start getting over themselves and this first world nonsense here pretty soon. A girl can dream.

Does your physician not follow CDC guidelines?
  • The pediatrician I chose stressed to me that they follow strict CDC guidelines so my baby will be getting all vaccines as scheduled unless he/she is medically unable. My favorite part of the visit, though, was when they told me if anyone chooses not to vaccinate they should find a new doctor. Finally, someone with common sense!

    I love this.

  • We will be doing a delayed/selective schedule.

My dr said the same thing. The only reason why I'm commenting on this post is because of the part about 8 at once?! I have heard of 4 but 8. Where did you get that from?

  • My child is on a very strict on-time vaccination schedule, and the most she has EVER had at once is three, and that's only because I went ahead and got her a flu shot that day. It's really not a big deal, if you just do it right and do it on time. These people have dedicated their lives to helping children be as healthy as can be. They want your child to be ok. It's their life's work.

We are doing the big to do! Grandparents, my sister and her family and us. My parents have been planning it since my sister was pregnant with my niece 5-6 years ago! Staying on site at port Orleans riverside!
  • Just ask your pedi to spread them out. Most are willing to work with you and will spread them out so that your baby only receives one or two at a time.
  • The most you would do at one time would be 4, and that would only be if you refused the Hepatitis B vaccine at birth ( we give it withing the first 12 hours of life). You can look up the scheduling of vaccines within the first year through the CDC. If you miss you scheduled pediatrician visits, that would be the only caveat which would behoove you to play catch-up with the vaccines.
  • Since I'm a first time mother and concerned for my child AFTER doing research on vaccinations I just wanted some quick opinions. I do not care about your trip to Disney World nor do I care for negative comments about my question. Thanks for those who answered seriously and piss off to the negative Nancys who are too bitter to be kind.

    Oh dear!
  • I don't remember my 4yo ever getting more than four at a time. It's really not that bad, they'll cry and get over it. Just think how much worse they'd be crying if they got the measles.

I can't wait! I'm itching to go! Especially with all this snow in New England!
  • I'm over it! Another 5-6 inches last night, I just can't believe it!

This is the internet. If people want to talk about Disney they have the right to do so. Apparently I missed the negative nancy posts. I thought you got plenty of feedback, especially considering vaccinations have been discussed like 10 times in this group before. Use the search function and you will get PLENTY of very serious opinions.
  • You can space vaccinations out so they don't get so many at once. Regardless, vaccinate please.

I don't go here, but the 6 month visit LO had five, because I elected the flu shot. One was oral, however, then two in each leg - damn if I can remember which they were, I believe it was DTaP, Hib, and PCV. Rota was oral.
