Sushi, raw fish?

I have been doing a lot of research....and it seems that as long as the mercury levels are low, sushi is a go :) https://www.babymed.com/food-and-nutrition/how-safe-it-eat-sushi-or-raw-fish-during-pregnancy

What do you moms think?

Re: Sushi, raw fish?

  • I was told not to eat raw fish. I love sushi, but I am not going to risk getting sick, food poisoning, etc... even cooked sushi... they roll the rolls on the same board they cut the fish on. contamination = dangerous. no thanks.
  • My Health advice was a) be careful how much you have coz of mercury levels and b) raw fish sushi is fine as long as the fish has been frozen first to kill off bacteria that could give you food poisoning. Which many restaurants do. Don't have 'fresh out the sea' raw sushi.

Having said that I've had dodgy fish sushi once or twice before (I love sushi) so am choosing to avoid it and only have cooked or vegetarian sushi, just to be on the safe side.
  • I actually live in Japan and my best friend here is from tokyo. I asked her just the other day and she said yes they definitely still eat sushi while pregnant. Just not raw oysters and raw egg and moldy cheeses. So there you have it! I got sick from sushi (in the states) even while not pregnant so I'm kind of scarred and am not going to chance it.
  • Just had a seaweed salad and 2 California rolls last night followed by some udon noodles. This is my third and i have eaten sushi with my other 2 as well. I just stick to cooked. There are plenty of options
