How much are you honestly exercising?

I feel like since I found out I'm preganant, I've had zero motivation to exercise! :( I know it's healthy for the baby but I just don't have any energy. This was going to be my year to be fit and I even went out and bought a fitbit the day before I found out I was pregnant.

I'm ten and a half weeks and feel guilty for not getting up and out more for my health. I'm a teacher, so I walk 3-5 miles throughout the day at work but that's it!

How much are you mommies exercising?

Re: How much are you honestly exercising?

  • Hello.. I've been tired but not to the point of exhaustion. I'm at 8.5 weeks and do yoga/pilates twice a week, volleyball twice a week and get out walking or snowshoeing about two to three times a week. I've always enjoyed being active so I'm just sticking to it while I can. That being said some nights I just love to sit on my butt because that's what my body wants.

  • About 30 minutes most days of the week of focused working out, but that doesn't account for impromptu dance parties with my kids.

  • I'm not. I used to do a mile of speed walking daily. My only consultation is that I am a teacher so I'm always on my feet at work.

  • I uses to run 40+ miles a week and now I have been running 6-9. I really want to get to at least 30 minutes a day but I have been so tired! I'm hoping I get some of my energy back soon.

I always thought it would be easy to keep exercising on the same level, but it's been really hard. I'm really going to try to step things up for the baby and to hopefully have an easier labor.
  • Before this pregnancy I was working out 5-6 times a week. I was still doing that up until week 7. Then the exhaustion hit at week 7 and then ms hit week 8 and the exhaustion stayed. And well haven't worked out at all since then. Hoping the exhaustion stops soon so I can get back to working out.

  • 3x a week for an hour each, weight lifting and cardio
  • I've been so exhausted I'm lucky if I get to my gym twice a week, I used to go four days a week minimum but I'm just too exhausted at this point. Even when I'm there I'm hardly able to workout. Can't wait for my energy to come back. :D

  • I'm not either. I'll probably go back to walking once the m/s goes away.

  • What's exercise?

Just kidding. I used to walk 1+ miles with my dog, but between the exhaustion and the 6 feet of snow that has just not happened...

I'm with @MiromiM‌ though and a teacher... always on my feet.
  • I'm hoping to have more energy/motivation in the second trimester. For now I just walk the dogs after school for about 20 minutes a day, and I do a lot of walking around at work being a teacher's aid.

  • I've done zilch since the subzero temperatures rolled in the last two weeks. I am dieing to get out and about. I don't belong to a gym nor would I go if I did. I just walk with my toddler for an hour to the playground on the walking trails and back. I've still been stretching everyday but I feel like a lump.

  • Apart from the occasional hour long walks - nothing. I used to be fairly active but just haven't had the energy. Just cleaning the house makes my heartrate go up at the moment. Hoping to get back to walking, some gym and yoga in a couple of weeks
  • I used to swim, do yoga, bike, and horseback ride all the time. I'm used to being very active, but have felt like crap so far this first trimester and have done none of my usual workouts.

My husband and I own a farm though, and no matter how cruddy I feel there's a lot of chores everyday. I manage to get through those, I take longer breaks and am useless on the couch after haha, but I get through it.
My husband helps a lot but there's way to much for one person to do.

So long story short, not really exercising right now but still pretty active.
  • 2x a week--barre class (which I'll have to quit in a few months for balance reasons) and zumba. I'll be stroller walking a little more as the weather gets nicer. It's hard to exercise with a toddler at home!

I'm also a teacher, so I figure those 10,000 steps a day are better than nothing!

Haven't worked out since week 7... I'll start back up when I don't feel so tired and sick. I've been so exhausted it's just ridiculous lol
  • No motivation for exercise here. My boobs are so sore that I'm hesitant to do any jumping (we have just dance). It's far too cold today (feels like -43 temp) to walk, plus I am afraid of slipping on ice. I'm excited for spring though because I know I'll be walking more then!
  • Absolutly nada lol
  • I was at least trying to jog every other day and squats and lunges but I have been finding it hard not to get so dizzy or migranes. I have been throwing up vegetables too. I am not nor have I ever been a gym rat but I'm not trying to look sloppy during pregnancy or after.
  • I saw some brand new cellulite on my ass and thighs before hopping in the shower today...I'm packing my gym bag for tomorrow.
  • Aprilmay92 I discovered it on mine too!!! I shed tears. I wish I had like extra motivation and help through this. I have yet to go to my first OB appt so I feel a bit lost as to how to properly take care of myself.
  • I do yoga 2/3x a week and barre 1x a week. I am exhausted but push myself to go for my health and the baby.
  • This week, I have done nothing and feel like a total slug! I usually do weights or cardio every day, so I'm going crazy. I've just been tired and busy with work so exercise got pushed aside. I'll get back to my routine soon, Shaun T is calling my name (but so is a cheeseburger and fries!)
  • I usually get up every morning at 515 and exercise. Until two weeks ago, I start and can't finish because of morning sickness. I've been trying to get on he treadmill and at least walk couple times a week if anything. Hopefully soon I'll get back on track.

  • I have to exercise 6x a week to prevent stress related mood swings. I do yoga, swimming, stand up paddling and stadium step jogging. I also have a history of an eating disorder and if I don't exercise those symptoms start coming back because of my unhealthy body image. I have found exercise to help me get my energy back up. The hardest part is getting to the gym or wherever you are going to exercise. I tell myself I will only do 15 mins and then I can go home to sleep. I always inevitably end up staying at least 30 mins. Try to find what works best for you because the baby will need consistent exercise for healthy development! You don't have to overdo it, maybe you can committ to 40 mins 3x/wk for example of something other than walking so you can focus on your breathing as you do cardio, this will help reduce stress as well and help you reap the max benefits of the exercise.

  • Hahahahahahahaha. Exercise.. That's funny

Ironically the month I stopped running is the month I conceived and since then I have just been so physically exhausted. I try to walk when I can but this solid ice has made it hard lately.. Looking forward to spring temps! I've also noticed when I do yoga--regular depth in stretches--I end up with these horrible pulled muscles in my buttock!! I guess it's just everything loosening up but i took that to mean I could chill for a few weeks. 2nd trimester, different story! I've been feeling better at 9 1/2 weeks and been hitting the gym for some walking on the treadmill and maybe some elliptical. I'd like to start swimming but there's no way I'll find that motivation when it's still 30° outside
  • @jyoga87‌ I'm super proud of you for sticking with your workout routine and recognizing how necessary it is for your mental health too. I have a few friends who are on the heavier/lazy side and they are constantly complaining about being tired and depressed, and it just makes me sad because I know that eating healthy and exercising fixes SOO many health problems. And if they ever join me at the gym and work up a sweat, their mood instantly improves! Keep up the good work! You have inspired me to get up and go exercise today!
  • Still about 4x a week-2 days of crossfit style training, 2 days of yoga :) I just resumed boxing this week now that I am at the first tri.

I found that exercise made me feel better when tired or nauseous! :)
  • 3 hours of yoga a week although I drag myself to the mat sometimes!
  • I've not been. Zero exercise. Cleaning the house has made me breathless. I have intentions to start again once I feel somewhat normal.

Before I was pg I was in the gym 4-5 times a week . I'm a model and was doing runway shows just about every other weekend so it was important for me to stay in shape.

However , the exhaustion has taken over ( going to bed at 730pm waking at 830AM) most nights with the daily routine of a midnight snack :) So no working out for me .

I'm hoping at 14 weeks ( after my
Next appt ) to enroll in a prenatal water aerobics and yoga class !

I was working out 3-4 days a week before pregnancy and doing a lot of weightlifting. I am still continuing my routine with the exception that I'm down to 1-2 times a week but I'm trying to push myself to get back to at least 3. My dr. Encouraged me (unlike some people in my life) that it's okay that I continue my routine and that I may need to eventually scale it back about 25% later in pregnancy. I also think not working out makes me more anxious so I'm trying to keep up with it and just listen to my body..but sometimes the negative feedback from people who have no idea can get on my nerves.
  • I've been much more tired than normal so I started working out first thing in the morning before work that way when I get home and I'm exhausted I can just flop onto the sofa and not worry about anything. I've been doing 30-45 minutes of cardiovascular and light weights 5-6 times per week since week 4. I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow. I've gained about 3-4 lbs anyway because im.so hungry all the time!
  • I'm 10 weeks now and last week was my first full week back to my normal routine (3 days crossfit, 2 days yoga). It felt good to sweat. I can definitely tell I'm a bit slower, but still managing the same weigh.

My advice: Just drink lots of water and pace yourself as needed. No need to maintain the same intensity if it doesn't feel right. And if you don't feel like doing anything, don't worry about it - you're making a baby!
  • I'm higher risk bc of you losses so my RE told me only swimming and walking for a lil while longer. Walking 3miles 5 days a week

  • I WAS doing really good. Now that I'm seemingly over the 1st trimester sick feelings I feel like I can get back into it. Better to do something, when you feel up to it, than nothing at all! Even just going on a neighborhood walk is something.

  • I had such great intentions for working out. I bought Pure Barre Prenatal DVDs and Tracy Anderson's Pregnancy workout with a disc for each month, then we went to our first sonogram and I was told I had a small Subchorionic Bleed and not to lift/bend and take it easy. Plus I've had wicked low back/ SI joint pain that I'm going to the Chiropractor for tomorrow. Add in the exhaustion and morning sickness and a 3 year old and I feel like a lost cause lol. I'm so upset that I can't do more right now but at the same time, I can't really fathom adding workouts into my day right now. I hope everyone's second trimester is friendlier than their first!!
  • Yoga, barre, spinning, and treadmill are my workouts. Glad I'm not the only one feeling the exhaustion. I think I child's posed more today in class than all other times combined haha. When should I switch to a prenatal class??
  • I manage a fast paced large retail store so at this time, that's the best I can do. I crash after the long shifts. It won't be enough with all these cravings though so I'm hoping I'll feel better by the second trimester. I'd rather not cap the Girl Scout cookies.
