12 weeks PG w/twins ?

Hello, I hope it's ok to come here with a question, I'm not a frequent poster but I read the boards daily. I am 12 weeks 5 days with twins and went to the dr today...she first tried to find heartbeats on Doppler and was of course trying to find them in my pelvic area, as they would normally be at 12 weeks. She couldn't find them so sent me to ultrasound and picked them up on U/S fine but that lady was up near my belly button. I remember in past pregnancies baby didn't get up to belly button area till 20 weeks or so...do twins carry higher or has this happened to anyone else? I forgot to ask dr and they didn't say anything about it. Just curious why they were so high when they are still so little? Thanks!

Re: 12 weeks PG w/twins ?

  • From my experience, they take up more room and twin pregnancies always measure ahead of singletons (I mean size of uterus measures ahead).
  • Not sure, but right before I found out I was having twins my dr was using the Doppler and said my uterus felt "large"

  • At 14 weeks with twins I was measuring at 18 weeks. It is normal to measure ahead.
