  • Agree with PP - this is definitely worth "bugging" the professionals about. And if you don't feel comfortable with asking them questions, then why are you comfortable with them delivering your child?? If they've given you reason to think questions are bad, maybe it's time to see someone else.

  • I have never heard of BH this early. With your history, please call your doctor or midwife.

  • I had a couple about 2 weeks ago, I read online to try drinking water and putting my feet up. It definitely helped.
I had a dr appt 2 days later and told them and she tested me for a UTI as that can be a sign of the infection. I didn't have one but I think I was just pushing myself too hard that day.

I definitely think you should call them, given your history. They may want to test for a UTI.

  • I'm so sorry everyone is so hateful???? I heard they're normal even around this time. I would drink more water to see if it helps. If not maybe you should consider calling your ob. :)

ps i don't like calling about little things like that either! you're not alone!

I think it's quite a stretch to refer to any of the comments on this thread is "hateful."

  • @Kyliek13‌ since when is telling someone to trust in their doctor being hateful? OP has a medical question. Doctors are medical experts, who OP is paying to advise her. She's worried questioning them is bugging them. It's not. And if she feels that it is, that's a problem that needs to be resolved one way or another BEFORE baby gets here. Given her medical history, it's best not to assume that this is a "little" problem - it might be, but better safe than sorry.

  • I never had an early baby , and I've been having braxton Hicks daily. They are painful. This is pregnancy #6 baby #5. I personally am not worried by it , but have I had a 26 week baby I would call my Dr just to be in the safe side. More than likely it's just your body practicing. I mean really is not is first rodeo. Lol . go ahead and call your Dr. They get ridiculous questions all day long so I'm sure your sincere reasoning for worrying is welcome . I'll just throw this out there..... YOU pay HER enough to answer a few questions for you. Seriously.
  • I'm 23w 1d with 2nd baby. I have around 3-4 BH eveyday. I've been having them for about a month. Usually at night. With no pattern or regularity. But they do hurt. I asked my dr at my last apt. And she said totally normal. Especially at night. She said if you notice a pattern or more than a few in an hour, call.
  • Braxton hicks started for me around 20 weeks.

  • Given your history, I don't understand why you wouldn't bring this up to your doctor. Bothering your doctor should be the least of your concerns.

That said, Braxton Hicks contractions start around 6 weeks of pregnancy. Most women don't feel them until mid-pregnancy, but they're occurring nonetheless. The question is whether you know the difference between BH and real labor (??).

  • I read that it's normal to feel them starting at around 20 wks. I've been feeling them. They are uncomfortable but definitely not painful. I would probably check with your midwife given your history and because they are painful.
  • Just got off the phone and my doctor explained my pain is due to Braxton hicks. I too am 23 wks. They just advised lots of water.
  • Taking shots at my grammar you're hurting my feelings :( . Maybe you should consider my feelings before lashing out like that.
  • I typically don't agree with rude comments but @briafields94‌ wasn't wrong here! OP if you have had trouble with early labor why in the world would you hesitate calling your Dr. If anything you have the right to call over heartburn or gas if you want. Are you not considered high risk??
  • I'm also 23 weeks and remember reading on the Bump home page that some woman start experiencing Braxton hicks around this time. Although I haven't felt anything like this yet.

Definately run it by your doctor the next time you have the chance, but I don't think they're is any harm in sharing your experiences with us on the Bump.

I love hearing about what's happening for other moms that are around the same stage in pregnancy as me. So thanks for sharing!
  • I have a history of preterm labor starting in week 32 with my previous 4 pregnancies. I've been have Braxton hicks since around week 16 or so. My doc said you'll get them earlier with each pregnancy. Well more like you'll notice them sooner too. She's not that concerned b/c it's only a few a day. Not regular or a ton of them. But she did say I need to up my water intake. And watch my stress levels. I would call your doc like PP said. This is definelty one of those cases where it's better to bug the doc. Especially given your history.
  • I started having non painful BH at 22 weeks, but around 23.5 they became painful. My doc said that is NOT normal and took me out of work (I'm a middle school teacher). I am also on "modified" bedrest and if I have any contractions I have to sit/lay down immediately until the my stop. My doc said any painful contractions are totally a cause for worry at this point. Not to freak you out, but call your OB asap.
