I should add for clarification: I do think that the bump was shitty to the old mods and I think their TOU changes and how they went about them was shady. But... I do like the current tone of our group a lot more now.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I'm sick of hearing about essential oils. From what I see on FB, online, etc, these oils should be the cure all for everything!!! They should over take modern medicine!!! From colds, to cuts, to viruses and mental health issues, one would think that essential oils are the most fantastic thing ever invented. My anxiety can be cured if I use these oils!! I have bronchitis-putting some oil on my chest or on my wrist will get rid of it. OMG!
I'm all for natural and homeopathic remedies, and I don't dispute that they probably help with symptoms, but I don't think they are the next greatest answer and solution to our health and wellness issues. Just like how people have issues on these boards with some posters seeking medical advice, I hate seeing essential oils being peddled as cure all's for illnesses (and I know this does not apply to everyone who uses/sells the oils, it's just what I see for the most part).

YES! And most that suggest them are actually not educated in using them (from my experience of friends). For instance, there are some oils that shouldn't be used on children but are constantly being suggested to use on children

This and Plexus- I have a Facebook friend who sells it, and it will fix EVERYTHING! How people don't see that these are just marketing tools used by the people selling to make money is beyond me. If it were THAT wonderful you would hear from the people that aren't making money off of it!

Unrelated to the essential oils rant, but it made me think of this: the current trend among my Facebook friends is to sell those Jamberry nail things. I have nothing against these products other than I just don't want to spend my money on them, but I'm SO SICK of getting Facebook event invites to these online parties where my friends basically beg everyone to buy them! Ugh. I'm glad they're trying to make some extra money, but I wish they didn't try to use my wallet to do it!

I just think they look tacky, but not as bad as acrylic nails. Ew.
It's -30 Celsius with the windchill today, and everybody is complaining. If you dress for the weather I don't think it's that bad. This is Canada after all.

lol my feed is going through the same nonsense only with the 3d mascaras that make everyone i know look like it's halloween every day. I don't want $30 mascara, stop inviting me to your "parties"!!

Yes-the 3D lash thing annoys me too, loll! I honestly hate being invited to any of those 'parties'. I'm also glad to see that people agree with me on the oils.
I pretty much want no one that I know to try to sell me things. I don't want to participate in any of them and if I do buy I feel like they expect me to continue buying and I don't usually want to..
I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!
The only thing I will buy from people in know is Girl Scout Cookies. Cause, Girl Scout Cookies.
My UO is I HATE reality TV. Survivor, Duck Hunting people, Teen Moms, Mama June, anything with 'testimonials', and for griefs sake I don't effing CARE about the Kardashians! So she took a picture of her ass, and married an ass, big frickin deal!
My exception to this rule is the Amazing Race. I'd love to travel the world and immerse in culture, and these people get to do that with a dose of scavenger hunt built in. I could care less about the 'celebrity' teams, tho. There was a team whose people were on a season of Survivor? Yeah, you've already gotten to do a show. Go away.
My UO is that I hate movies and watching tv. I think they are a waste of time. It drives my husband crazy though because he loves movies. I would just much rather do something productive for 2 hours instead of watching a movie.

Now that is an Unpopular Opinion!! I love movies (of course lately I just fall asleep during them..)!

I also like winter. I bundle up and brave the cold. It's no big deal.
I also hate all the talk about essential oils.
I don't mind the lash and jamberry stuff. I just leave the group on FB and the posts stop.
I love TV. I love movies even more.
I guess my UO its this: I want some of the snark back on the board. It's boring and mild here. I enjoyed the Bump for the entertainment value. And of course the shared experiences/ information... But there was nothing better than a good catfight on TB when I was up nursing my daughter at 3am. It really helped pass the time.
Getting back to fb invites, I got 3 invites to wrap parties earlier this month. I finally had to post to stop inviting me to your wrap parties and that as a pregnant woman it wasn't going to help and my stomach was supposed to look like that.
My UO is that I hate movies and watching tv. I think they are a waste of time. It drives my husband crazy though because he loves movies. I would just much rather do something productive for 2 hours instead of watching a movie.
That's exactly what my fiancé says!! I have to bribe him with treats and foot rubs to get him to watch a movie with me! I probably wouldn't get anything done without him though...
My UO doesn't have to do with the bump - but I just got a call that my son was mean to another kid in his class - and while part of me is upset - there's another part of me that lives that he has the confidence to know what he wants -- he'll be one of the younger kids in his grade for life, so he needs some "meanness" in his personality! I was always nice and I was picked on a lot and my husband allowed himself to stay in an abusive, destructive friendship for 28 years that almost bankrupted us! So. I spoke to my son, but not as harshly as I should have...
My UO is that breastfeeding pisses me off. Now before I get drawn and quartered...what I mean is that while I fully intend to breastfeed for the first few months of LO's life if I am able to, I hate how everyone wants to invite me to breastfeeding groups and whatnot on Facebook... like dude, if I have to see another boob (attatched to the head of a child or otherwise) that's not my own I'm going to loose it. If I have to hear about why breast is best and women who give their babies formula are formed from Satan's anus, I might actually roll my eyes out of my head. And if I have to hear another unsolicited story about how you breastfed little Tommy until he was 5 and it made your nipples look like ground beef coat hangers I'm going to put a bag on my head. I just cannot...
Mine is that I hate Facebook. It's useless.I mean I liked being noisy and seeing who's got a new ugly boyfriend or who's posting ridiculous pictures but I just can't do it. My husband and I deleted our accounts after ex drama and I'm glad we did.

Adding on to this, from everything I've read on the matter, it seems that breast is best - but not to the extent that some people claim it to be. Studies on breastfeeding tend not to be fantastic quality in general. Ideally if you wanted to do a scientific study on the effects of breastfeeding you would get a large group of women and randomly assign them to breastfeeding or formula - and ideally you would make it so that you and the women didn't know what group they belonged to. But obviously that's not really ethical. So studies on breastfeeding are usually retrospective and observational. Which introduces a lot of confounding factors - for example socioeconomic status which is a massive contributor to health. There certainly seems to be a correlation with breastfeeding and improved childhood health but once you correct for confounding factors it's not as big an advantage as it originally seemed. And the long term effects which are claimed such as increased IQ are even more dubious.
So yeah, I'm going to do my very best to breastfeed. But if for whatever reason I can't then that's ok. As long as my child is well fed, that's the most important thing. And I can't help but roll my eyes a little when I hear very militant opinions on breastfeeding, especially when it's used to shame mothers who formula feed.

I am with you!! I breastfed my LO for a year.. But you want to know the main reason why? It's free! We have the money to buy formula but if I don't need to then why spend it?

Totally using my pregnancy to not have to go to a wedding in May...got my OB to say "she doesn't recommend it." So I have an "officially excuse" to say no.
People being "anti pink" when they are expecting a girl. I love all the colours of the rainbow, and yes. Pink is wayyy over-represented in little girls' clothing, but that doesn't mean that everything pink is disgusting, and harmful. I plan on including a number of pink and ruffly numbers in this LOs wardrobe, then when she's 3 or 4 or 5 or 15 and wants to wear nothing but jeans and t-shirts (as I did), I will happily embrace that. Putting a little girl in pink is not damning her to a sad life shrouded by a female inferiority complex.

Yes. This! I am happily painting my nursery pink and if she doesn't like it when she is old enough to care it's only paint and we can change it. And girls can wear pinks and play sports... Imagine that!
What is up with coconut in everything, water, oil, everything. Yuck!
Oh and the snarky comments I get about having my daughter start daycare next month. She is 17mo and I just accepted an offer and a job that's going to really set my career on fire In. I know that she'll be fine, she loves other children and after I give birth to my second daughter and she's old enough she too will go into childcare. When I get the comments of 'oh well I would never trust someone else to watch my child' or 'that's Nice but I would never do that' why is it such a crime? I love my daughter and I love my newborn but I want to make sure I provide a good life for them and I will always be accessible to them teach them everything I know play with them love them just like we all want to do for our children. I was a stay at home mom for 17 months because my daughter had serious health issues; we weren't sure if she would live past the first couple months. I'm ecstatic that she's well enough to go to daycare and I can go to work. Just because you're doing something else doesn't mean what I'm doing is wrong, and you don't know the story behind my family. and I don't know the story behind yours. As long as the child is happy, healthy, safe, and loved isn't that all that matters?
wow sorry that got real quic,k so yeah coconut milk In everything, what's up with that?

haha yes seriously, I'm not anti pink but I don't specifically go looking for it. That being said almost everything is pink and I'm okay with it and my daughters room is pink and I'm okay with it. If someone else wants to paint their daughters room green that's great it's their room you can do what you want with it.
I know this is out there, but I'm tired of seeing the 50 Shades of Grey rants on FB. You're either going to see it or not. I don't want to see your articles about how sinful it is, or how it degrades women.
Just because I keep seeing this over and over.... I don't understand why people purposely use boy names for girls?! You may think it is trendy but chances are your child won't... I just read a post about how perfect it is because the name is unisex... I don't get why that would be a good reason for a name.

Yes! I'm frustrated with this because the name DH and I have come to like if we have a boy is currently going thru a girl naming phase. We both like the name a lot, but I will feel bad if the only other kids we see with that name are girls. It is still used more for boys than girls (when checking naming statistics), but I see a lot of posts that read, "the only kid I have met named this is a girl"
Ack, the phrase "Just You Wait" for the impending doom that is to come with my life. I don't care if it's true, it's not a kind thing to say to a hormonal pregnant woman. I've heard it so many times in the last few months. My MIL just said it and I let her know. I plan on letting everyone know from now on. I can't take it.

I got this a lot while pregnant with my first. I thought it was over after DD was born. FALSE. "Just you wait until she's walking" "just you wait until she throws tantrums" Now, it's "just you wait, you'll have to chase around DD while caring for a newborn" "just you wait. You have no idea how hard it is with 2 in diapers."
OMFG. Stop. My mother is the absolute worst at this. If the words Just, You and Wait come in the same sentence, I will shank you.

This has been going on before my mother was born in 1964 so it's not trendy. Lot's of older men especially have ladies names and they seem to be okay with them. I.e. Shannon, McKinley, Beverly, Tracey ans Stacey to name a few.

It's definitely not new, but I think you could make the argument that it's trendy since it is relatively uncommon and, right now, it's become slightly more popular due to examples set by celebrities (such as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' daughter James and Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher's daughter Wyatt). And the truth is, you can NEVER know how a baby is going to like a name - even if you do choose a name that is traditionally associated with the baby's gender.
