Re: Unpopular Opinions

  • Mine is that I actually enjoy winter. I like a good amount of snow. I would much rather get a bunch of snow than just have a cold dreary winter.

  • I should add for clarification: I do think that the bump was shitty to the old mods and I think their TOU changes and how they went about them was shady. But... I do like the current tone of our group a lot more now.
    Agreed! This exactly!

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I'm sick of hearing about essential oils. From what I see on FB, online, etc, these oils should be the cure all for everything!!! They should over take modern medicine!!! From colds, to cuts, to viruses and mental health issues, one would think that essential oils are the most fantastic thing ever invented. My anxiety can be cured if I use these oils!! I have bronchitis-putting some oil on my chest or on my wrist will get rid of it. OMG!

I'm all for natural and homeopathic remedies, and I don't dispute that they probably help with symptoms, but I don't think they are the next greatest answer and solution to our health and wellness issues. Just like how people have issues on these boards with some posters seeking medical advice, I hate seeing essential oils being peddled as cure all's for illnesses (and I know this does not apply to everyone who uses/sells the oils, it's just what I see for the most part).

    ^^
    THIS.
    I agree 100%.
  • Unrelated to the essential oils rant, but it made me think of this: the current trend among my Facebook friends is to sell those Jamberry nail things. I have nothing against these products other than I just don't want to spend my money on them, but I'm SO SICK of getting Facebook event invites to these online parties where my friends basically beg everyone to buy them! Ugh. I'm glad they're trying to make some extra money, but I wish they didn't try to use my wallet to do it!

I just think they look tacky, but not as bad as acrylic nails. Ew.

lol my feed is going through the same nonsense only with the 3d mascaras that make everyone i know look like it's halloween every day. I don't want $30 mascara, stop inviting me to your "parties"!!
Yes-the 3D lash thing annoys me too, loll! I honestly hate being invited to any of those 'parties'. I'm also glad to see that people agree with me on the oils.

  • I pretty much want no one that I know to try to sell me things. I don't want to participate in any of them and if I do buy I feel like they expect me to continue buying and I don't usually want to..

  • The only thing I will buy from people in know is Girl Scout Cookies. Cause, Girl Scout Cookies.

My UO is I HATE reality TV. Survivor, Duck Hunting people, Teen Moms, Mama June, anything with 'testimonials', and for griefs sake I don't effing CARE about the Kardashians! So she took a picture of her ass, and married an ass, big frickin deal!

My exception to this rule is the Amazing Race. I'd love to travel the world and immerse in culture, and these people get to do that with a dose of scavenger hunt built in. I could care less about the 'celebrity' teams, tho. There was a team whose people were on a season of Survivor? Yeah, you've already gotten to do a show. Go away.

  • My UO is that I hate movies and watching tv. I think they are a waste of time. It drives my husband crazy though because he loves movies. I would just much rather do something productive for 2 hours instead of watching a movie.

Now that is an Unpopular Opinion!! I love movies (of course lately I just fall asleep during them..)!

That's exactly what my fiancé says!! I have to bribe him with treats and foot rubs to get him to watch a movie with me! I probably wouldn't get anything done without him though...
  • My UO doesn't have to do with the bump - but I just got a call that my son was mean to another kid in his class - and while part of me is upset - there's another part of me that lives that he has the confidence to know what he wants -- he'll be one of the younger kids in his grade for life, so he needs some "meanness" in his personality! I was always nice and I was picked on a lot and my husband allowed himself to stay in an abusive, destructive friendship for 28 years that almost bankrupted us! So. I spoke to my son, but not as harshly as I should have...
  • @thepalindromicone‌ I do miss that haha. I never participated but I enjoyed looking through them!

  • Mine is that I hate Facebook. It's useless.I mean I liked being noisy and seeing who's got a new ugly boyfriend or who's posting ridiculous pictures but I just can't do it. My husband and I deleted our accounts after ex drama and I'm glad we did.
  • Totally using my pregnancy to not have to go to a wedding in May...got my OB to say "she doesn't recommend it." So I have an "officially excuse" to say no.

People being "anti pink" when they are expecting a girl. I love all the colours of the rainbow, and yes. Pink is wayyy over-represented in little girls' clothing, but that doesn't mean that everything pink is disgusting, and harmful. I plan on including a number of pink and ruffly numbers in this LOs wardrobe, then when she's 3 or 4 or 5 or 15 and wants to wear nothing but jeans and t-shirts (as I did), I will happily embrace that. Putting a little girl in pink is not damning her to a sad life shrouded by a female inferiority complex.

Yes. This! I am happily painting my nursery pink and if she doesn't like it when she is old enough to care it's only paint and we can change it. And girls can wear pinks and play sports... Imagine that!

haha yes seriously, I'm not anti pink but I don't specifically go looking for it. That being said almost everything is pink and I'm okay with it and my daughters room is pink and I'm okay with it. If someone else wants to paint their daughters room green that's great it's their room you can do what you want with it.
  • Just because I keep seeing this over and over.... I don't understand why people purposely use boy names for girls?! You may think it is trendy but chances are your child won't... I just read a post about how perfect it is because the name is unisex... I don't get why that would be a good reason for a name.

Yes! I'm frustrated with this because the name DH and I have come to like if we have a boy is currently going thru a girl naming phase. We both like the name a lot, but I will feel bad if the only other kids we see with that name are girls. It is still used more for boys than girls (when checking naming statistics), but I see a lot of posts that read, "the only kid I have met named this is a girl"

This has been going on before my mother was born in 1964 so it's not trendy. Lot's of older men especially have ladies names and they seem to be okay with them. I.e. Shannon, McKinley, Beverly, Tracey ans Stacey to name a few.

It's definitely not new, but I think you could make the argument that it's trendy since it is relatively uncommon and, right now, it's become slightly more popular due to examples set by celebrities (such as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' daughter James and Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher's daughter Wyatt). And the truth is, you can NEVER know how a baby is going to like a name - even if you do choose a name that is traditionally associated with the baby's gender.
