Anyone Else Feeling Like Complete And Total Crap??

I was just released from the hospital where I had to have two rounds of IV fluids and Nebulizer treatment and have fetal monitoring. I have been sick since thanksgiving! I know that pregnancy kills your immune system so it can protect the baby but this is ridiculous! I have had 3 rounds of antibiotics since December and nothing helps. I am normally a REALLY healthy person, I can't even remember the last time I was sick before this. The sinus infections and upper respiratory infections just keep coming. I'll be good for about 3-5 days and then get hit again with another round that will last weeks! I know this is an awful winter for sickness so I was just wondering how other mamas are doing!? I'm scared I'm just not going to have the energy for labor. I felt like a super hero with my first birth, but now I'm 37 weeks and for the last few months it takes all my energy just climb the stairs. My PCP and Midwives say I'm doing everthing I can : ( Just having a little pity party! Hopefully everything will right itself after the goober is here!!

  • Ugh! So sorry this hasn't been the easiest road for you... I am lucky to say I can't relate, but I feel for you and I hope you can find some comfort these next few weeks until LO arrives.

I am right there with you on the crap train! It seems like I am feeling good and healthy for 3-4 days then I'm down again! I've had every cold/virus/tummy bug that anybody within 100 yards of me has been exposed to. Im afraid that my family and friends are starting to think that I am a wussy little crybaby. I am having my own little pity party here so I am kind of encouraged that I am not the only one that is miserable, but sorry you are there too. I keep trying to focus on the little girl that I will be meeting soon and that all the pain and sickness will fade into the far back as soon as I get to hold her. Keep fighting through one day at a time, we are almost there
  • I'm there, not really sick but ear ache and kind of sinus pain in my right side on my face :(
Miserably cold in Canada -38 Celsius makes very hard to get some fresh air

Going on week 2 of what I think is a sinus infection mixed with allergies.
Have a humidifier going all night to help, but isn't benefitting much. It'd be nice to breathe out of my nose now that baby has dropped and given my lungs more space. 2 weeks to go!
  • Sorry other mamas are sick but glad to know im not alone!! You are right, we are almost there!! You'd think not being able to taste would keep me away from the ice cream and chocolate and yet I'm still going after it all : ) I should have bought stock in tissues. Never in my life have i gone through so many boxes!! Hang in there everyone and thanks for listening to me moan!

  • I feel for you! I haven't lost my sinus infection since I got pregnant (I am 35 weeks 3 days). It seems to be only getting worse and I have had to go to the doctor 3 times and there is almost nothing they can give me medicine wise (Plus I have Crohn's disease which limits the amount of meds I can take). With my Crohn's getting worse as the pregnancy goes on, my previous back problems getting worse, and just always being tired..its never ending! I was told by my gastroenterologist that my Crohn's could actually get worse after the baby is born..can't wait!!! (Sarcasm haha). However, it is what it is and nothing I can do about any of this. All I can say is that I hope you feel better!!
  • Sorry your having a crappy pregnancy:( with my first pregnancy I had cold symptoms the whole time which did get a little better with allergy meds. This time I had bronchitis twice & actually consider this the better of the two! But man my body doesn't want to work anymore, can't sleep, can't sit too long, can't walk, I'm a mess! Only three weeks to go thank god!!! Good luck!
  • I think I spoke too soon. Currently home from work in bed. Feeling pretty sick. :-/ My boss asked me why I came into work if I wasn't feeling well, and I told him I couldn't tell if I were just pregnant or sick. Haha

This... I struggle with this all the time -- "Am I just pregnant and being a baby about it, or am I really sick?" --
I'm pretty annoyed about still being at work at 37 weeks :-/
  • I'm so sorry you've been having such a hard time! That all sounds terrible. I hope that for all that suffering you are at least rewarded with an easy labour and delivery!

Sorry to all of you sick mamas! I feel really lucky because, with my last pregnancy and this one, my immune system has been great and I have gotten by without even a cold. It is the after pregnancy part that worries me. I usually get sick because my immune system sucks with very little rest and going non stop. After my son was born, I got sick so much. Stomach flu, strep throat, bronchitis, ear infections, etc. Hopefully you all start to feel better before going into labor so you have enough energy to make it through!!

  • Me too :-( I get better for a few days and then bam, sick again. Right now I can't hear out of my right ear it's so congested. Sleep doesn't happen for longer than an hour because of coughing, bathroom needs, can't breath, etc. I have a little over a week until my csection, I really want to be better before that. Can't imagine coughing while they are cutting me would be a good thing.

  • so i am going to go back to the health food store and get more. but elderberry syrup (straight with nothing else in it) and a real refridgerated probiotic are supposed to be amazing for your immune system. I took them throughoutthe second trimester while i was teaching kindergarten but then i just stopped and have been too busy and too sick (go figure) to make the drive and go get more. im about to be put on another Zpack today, i may be coming down with strep ontop of eveything else so hopefully the zpack will killl everything and th elderberry and probiotic will help protect me for these next few weeks. just wanted to throw those suggestions out there. the elderberry is especially good for viral infections and both were cleared by my PCP and my midwives. feel better ladies!!

I'm the same. I got sick on Christmas Day with a respiratory virus and I haven't been myself since. I'm exhausted. I'll feel good for a day and then it's back to yucky again. :( This last week it turned into bronchitis. My boss is a total jerk about it too. Makes me feel guilty like I'm just a whiny prego chick. I just miss feeling like me. 3 more weeks.. That's what I keep telling myself.
  • I really thought that I was going to make it through my pregnancy without getting sick, but here I am in bed with a sinus infection and a fever. And I know I caught this crap from one of my co-workers! I feel so miserable. I hope everyone feels better before the big day!

i feel you there! i have considered myself blessed through this whole pregnancy because i have not gotten too sick like most of my friends have during pregnancy. But that doesn't mean that i haven't been experiencing all the upper respiratory and sinus infections! ugh i feel like ill be okay for a week and then the next WHAM here we go again with all the nasty snot and breathing issues. Only one more week until the big day hopefully!
  • I had a terrible cold with my first pregnancy. This time around I was lucky, until about 2 days ago when I started with the itchy throat and stuffy nose. With my first I tried lots of teas, a humidifier, steamed up the bathroom, and even had my husband do "cupping " on my back to loosen up the phlegm. I just hope this time around it doesn't get too bad. It's just so hard not to get sick when you have a kindergartener at home bringing little bugs! Lol! I hope you feel better soon! Just keep trying to "up" your vitamin C with OJ, EmergenC packets, and red/green bell peppers.
  • Yup, I'm gonna go ahead and blame my 2.5 year old for bringing home everything under the sun! My fear is that I won't get to smell that sweet baby head smell right away!! I haven't smelled or tasted in months : (
