Baby cries unless on the boob

My 4 week old daughter has been uncharacteristically fussy the last few days- she cries constantly, often screaming, and is inconsolable mostly unless she's on my breast. Has anyone else gone through this? Should I be concerned? Sound like a growth spurt? I can't always tell if she's actively feeding or sucking for comfort. She has plenty of diapers, so at least I know she is getting enough to eat after hours spent on me!

Re: Baby cries unless on the boob

  • Sounds a lot like a growth spurt. Does she seem satisfied even temporarily after nursing? We just had one Good luck!

  • It doesn't sound like something to be concerned about yet. Growth spurts are rough but it should be just a phase. Even if shes' not actively nursing  I would just let her be on the boob as much as you can handle because it will help up your supply to meed her new demand. Do you have a baby carrier that you can nurse in? That's something I wished I would have tried with my LO because my butt would get sore from sitting and nursing so much.
  • @maplebar- you get me! my butt hurts so much from the couch. I do have a carrier, but I haven't tried it by myself yet; I've only had my husband help me put her in. I need to work on that. Plus, I don't mean to sound stupid, but I don't really know how to nurse her in a carrier? Sorry, I'm really new to this, but it sounds like a very appealing option.

There are most likely youtube videos demonstrating how to nurse in the carrier depending on which carrier you have. I know people who have nursed in the ergo, moby, and in ring slings and generally it looks like you loosen the carrier a little and scoot things to one side so their head can reach your boob on the other side.
  • my favorite nursing position ALL time is side -lying
i love it especially when i'm tired, which is all the time... , so i can close my eyes while LO is noshing away :)
