If I am doing anything except standing, I have a ridiculously sharp pain in my right side up near my ribcage. Is anyone else experiencing this?? This is my first pregnancy so I just don't know if this is normal or not.
I also used the search function and none of those posts related to the same pain I'm feeling... OP if you find anything out of love to know what this annoying pain is! I'm not worried about it just annoyed by it.
I'm 24 weeks, and I was having similar pain for the past several weeks. After talking to my doctor and googling around, it appeared to be my ribs expanding. (If you google rib pain during pregnancy you will find a ton of info on this common symptom.) Doctor said that as long as it feels kind of like a pulled muscle and is higher up then it shouldn't be anything to worry about. (If it's a different type of pain lower down in your abdomen you should definitely talk to your doctor.) The pain can be caused by inflammation of rib cartilage. Try leaning back and stretching your chest open. Also, I went out and purchased two new bras (one with underwire and one without) with a band size one size up from what I was wearing. That also seemed to help. The pain comes and goes, but it is much better than it was.
I'm not a Dr but am closely monitored bc of pre existing BP issues. One sign im told to watch for is right upper quadrant pain which is the area bt your shoulder and stomach. You should call your dr, especially if you also have any vision changes and headaches as they are signs for pre eclampsia. It may be growing/stretching pains but why gamble? Call your dr.
I had the exact pain your describing with my first pregnancy from about 19 weeks on. Bad news is that it lasted the entire pregnancy. The only time I felt relief was when I was up standing or walking. I had everything from my liver tested to see if I had a broken rib. After doing a few ultra sounds my doctor concluded that it was most likely a foot that was pushing my uterus up into my rib cage. I did start going to see a chiropractor which helped a little bit. The good news, it went away the day that little nugget came out! Good luck!
I had similar pain and I basically had to treat it like a broken rib. I laid in one comfortable position for close to 48 hours and the pain slowly subsided within a week. I somehow managed to pull the muscles under my rib cage.
Kidney issues.. Gullstones ... Sleep on your left side.. Stay off your back for long periods of time. ( asked a Dr pal what bad things it could be) but unless you Dr checks it out.. I honestly don't know
