Huggies nappies

Heya, just wondering if anyone knows if there a functional difference between the boy and girl nappies? We are team green and I am wanting to stock up now on crawler nappies

Re: Huggies nappies

  • I'm doing cloth, but I think the rule is not to stock up because you don't know what brand will work best for your babe.

  • They make them in boy and girl? We clearly haven't looked at diapers too hard yet. If I had to make an educated guess, maybe boys have more leak coverage in the front and girls in the back, because of how differently we pee. It could be just as simple as the characters they choose to print on the diaper, you know, princesses vs cars kind of thing?

  • I have an almost two year old girl in diapers and I did not know there were boy and girl diapers.. So, I would say there is probably not much difference..

I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!

  • Here in the states, I don't think I have ever seen a "sex" specific diaper. With my boys I loved the Pampers Swaddlers.
  • Thank god I haven't missed something really obvious. I've looked around on Amazon to price compare, but never noticed, or thought to look if they were sexed. I really wish Amazon or anyone, really, would sell like a sampler pack of a few of each kind. That would be so amazing, especially for FTM's! But I would imagine that every diaper fits every baby differently.

  • Really? Here in aus I think only 1 brand is unisex (cheap nasty ones) and the rest are marketed as boys(blue boxes) girls (pink boxes) from 4.5kg. Thanks for everyone's help
  • I've only seen boy/girl diapers from the honest company and that's b/c of the design on them.
  • Do you know what find interesting that Target brand diapers are colored blue and green. I could care less but I find it interesting that they make the diapers that way. I think they are cute for a boy or girl

(disclaimer: I could care less about gender stereotypes, my baby girl will be wearing hand me downs from her brothers and my boys wore hand me downs from my nieces)
  • @mishmardhiono‌ I'm aussie too so I know what you're talking about. There is a difference in the absorbency section of boys and girls nappies in Australia.
This is from the huggies au website:

    Q. What is the difference between boy and girl nappies?
    A. Because boys and girls have different absorbency needs, Huggies Nappies are designed to have absorbency where your baby needs it the most. Boys produce a greater concentration of urine at the front of the nappy where girls have a relatively even distribution of urine with a slightly higher concentration in the middle to the back of the nappy. Huggies boy and girl nappies have been developed based on extensive testing with both Australian and New Zealand babies to maximise dryness and minimise leakage during the day and night for all babies.
  • Most stores in the U.S. Have very flexible exchange policies for diapers. You could probably stock up now, buying some of each for newborn size and then randomly choosing one for the other sizes and then exchange once baby comes. That way you can still use current coupons or deals. I'd check what the store policies looks like first, but it could be an option for you.

Thanks, I had a look in Coles today and they hve a little picture showing how they are different in the box. Still stumped as to what would be best for unisex, might call them on Monday. Or do the exchange policy the other user is taking about.

That's also a good idea I hadn't thought of kaitlynnaureen.. Thanks for your help
  • Wondering if OP is not from US... I agree with PP, I have not seen sex specific diapers in US
  • In australia most brands are gender specific. The cheap ones aren't but the better quality ones are. The ony good quality ones that aren't is newborn. They are neutral.

  • Do "crawler nappies" mean those the baby will wear when he/she is crawling? That's like 10 months away! I'm sure they'll be on sale at some point between June and December. Just wait. Resist the urge to buy (and store!) stuff you won't need for a long time yet!

Anyway, agree with @babybean9‌ - everything I've read says even the "best" diapers (disposable or cloth) don't work for every baby. Don't stock up - the stores won't run out!
  • To answer your question, I'm in Australia too and I would say that there is probably minimal difference, but you can just buy one box of unisex nappies or girls or boys or whatever and then the sex specific when you do find out after the birth.....I used them with my first DS and they were very good!
  • I've tried every diaper brand out there and my favorite all time diaper is pampers swaddlers. The best!

  • I agree with PP I liked the pamper swaddlers when I did use disposables. To me I couldn't get past the weird smell on the Huggies... ( before and after they were soiled)
