Anyone else weekly NST?

I am 38 weeks 4 days and I have a history of HBP before pregnancy but not during and in the last few weeks my Dr. has advised I come in 2x a week for monitoring which includes a weekly NST and ultrasound to check fluid and growth due to my history. Anyone else been through this? She keeps saying everything looks good but it's kinda freaking me out.

Re: Anyone else weekly NST?

  • I have bi-weekly NSTs due to high fluid and a suspected large baby.

Also had bi-weekly NSTs with DD #1 due to pre-eclampsia.

They just hook you up to a heart rate monitor for baby and they monitor uterine contractions. They are looking to make sure that baby is moving around and the heart rate is fluctuating. If all looks good, they send you on your way. If the baby doesn't "pass" they will conduct a bio-physical profile which is just an ultrasound test that takes about 10 minutes. Not too much to worry about and it's REALLY fun to listen to baby's heartbeat.

  • Went through those for past 4 weeks 2x a week due to twin pregnancy. Had my last one done today. Just like PP said, just on monitors to watch baby heart rate accelerate and decelerate with their movements. If you have contractions while hooked up they also check the heart rate of baby to see how they handle it.
  • I'm currently going through bi-weekly NSTs and was just told today that I will have an ultrasound to check fluid once a week. This is all because of high blood pressure. I've only done one NST so far, but honestly, it wasn't that big of a deal and as PP said, they will more than likely do a bio-physical profile if the baby doesn't 'pass' the NST. I've had one of those as well and it also wasn't that big of a deal.

  • yup. 2 NSTs per week and 1 BPP per week. (two appts). I thought at first it would be fun but it has definitely gotten old. I've been doing this for about 4 weeks now.  But this is my last week! I'm being induced next Wednesday!!

My frequent checks are due to the fact that I have polyhydramnios and fibroids.  Unfortunately, my sweetie has "failed" the test twice and I had to go to the hospital for additional monitoring.  Basically you go to labor and delivery and they do exactly the same thing as at the doctors office (hook you up to monitors and monitor babies heartrate accels and decels).  It just goes for much longer, for me 2 hours each time. So yea. Now I always take a sugary carbonated caffeinated drink with me to get baby moving.  It doesn't usually take much. for you little one juice may work :-)

  • Yep, I just started them twice a week. My BP was high on Sunday so she has me coming in just as a precaution.

  • No big deal.  I actually found it pretty reassuring to have that check every couple of days.
  • Thank you all so much! None of my friends have had this experience with their pregnancies so it's super reassuring that this happens and doesn't mean much besides precautions. Good luck to everyone on safe deliveries and healthy babies!
  • Really no big deal like PP's have said. I've had one a week for the past 7 weeks. I enjoy mine because it's 20 min to sit down and just cocintrate on baby.
  • I've been having weekly NSTs and biophysicals weekly (2 appointments a week) for 6 weeks now due to low PAPP-A. Hopefully it's my last week since I'm due next week!
  • Our last pregnancy we went through this. Two NSTs seperated by a BPP midweek due to a two-vessel cord and no fetal weight gain in the last three weeks. I hated going to the hospital constantly but hearing him on the monitor made my heart full. It took the worry out of his low movements because I was able to check in on him all the time. Keep your head up! T&P everything will turn out perfectly.
  • I had them with both my pregnancies. The last month of each I felt like I lived in the doctors office with the number of appointments I had
  • Ive been having weekly NSTs since Jan 2nd. I was on blood pressure meds before i got pregnant and i haven't had any issues at all since i got pregnant. My doctor said that its just a precaution to make sure that baby and I continue to do well. I wouldn't worry
  • This is my second pregnancy with weekly NSTs starting at week36 due to my age. They sit you in a recliner, hook you up to a fetal HR monitor and have you push a button whenever you feel the baby move. It also looks for contractions. I've had 3 now, and I always wind up dozing a little, especially today when I swear the nurses forgot about me.
