What are you sipping??

I’ve been a huge coffee drinker for years, and have switched to one small cup of decaf every other day for the foreseeable future. I didn’t realize, though, that there are a lot of herbal teas that also aren’t allowed during pregnancy for whatever reason. So my question is, for all of you mamas out there who love a cozy cup of something warm, what are you sipping?

I tried making hot chocolate from scratch but having some other safe options would be fabulous!

I’m a huge coffee drinker too and I decrease the amount of caffeinated coffee while pregnant, but I don’t eliminate it entirely. A cup or two in the morning is fine. I’ll do decaf if I want coffee later in the day.

I need to find a good non-alcoholic beer for summer though!

  • @ReadyForaB good to know! Refreshers are an essential part of surviving summer!
@etnyah Have you tried Athletic Brewing? They’re pretty expensive, but I tried it at a friend’s baby shower last summer and it was shockingly good!

@jesele I haven’t tried AB, but I just looked them up and that looks promising! Thanks for the tip, I’ll try to get ahold of some!

I cut back my intake to just one cup of coffee in the morning per day. I used to sometimes have two in the morning and one in the afternoon. Also going to cut back on my caffeinated zevia to cut extra caffeine. Otherwise been sipping water and la croix.
  • The smell of coffee is already disgusting to me. I’m a big fan of Bubbl’rs to get a small caffeine fix. It’s not “cozy” but with the hot months approaching, it’s exactly what I need.
  • I've cut out coffee completely (decreased by 1/2 oz every day to slowly wean off), and now I have one cup of English Breakfast tea every day.

As far as cold drinks, I wanted something that at least looked fancy to drink when we eat out, so I've been opting for soda water with lime. So refreshing, and surprisingly yummy (I'm not a fan of flavored seltzers/bubly/LaCroix)
  • I still have a daily latte or cold brew (< 200 mg is fine a day!) in the morning, but cut my afternoon Coke Zero. I’ve been enjoying diet, caffeine-free root beer. Yum!
  • Has anyone else been hit with ads about non-alcoholic wine (like Surely)? Have you tried them? Are any of them decent?
  • @jesele yes I’ve been hit with ALL pregnancy ads, including n/a wine. My husband got some for me with my last pregnancy, and unfortunately it didn’t taste very good. I can’t remember the brand though. Perhaps later in the pregnancy it will interest me again, but right now I’m at the stage where alcohol sound disgusting!

@jesele I tried a dozen n/a wines last time around and didn’t like any. Not even bothering this time.

  • Liquids are currently making me nauseated haha but I too was a HUGE tea/ coffee drinker prior. I just cut it all out and have been sipping on water mixed with pure cranberry juice during the day and diet ginger ale lol
  • I’ve gone down to one cup of coffee per day max and most of the time I can’t even get through it. Ginger beer is my go to treat drink. Non alcoholic but so much tastier and refreshing than ginger ale! But I don’t get to enjoy it often because I have been so THIRSTY! I’m much more thirsty than I was in my last pregnancy!
  • I’ve officially entered the no-coffee phase! Didn’t think it was possible for me but I can’t bear to even think about it. I think it’s a combination of the smell/taste and the hot liquid. Blech. I’ve starting sipping on iced Yerba Mate in the morning which has helped prevent caffeine headaches.

During the day I sometimes have a concoction of coconut water, tart cherry juice (or pineapple juice), and lime juice with a dash of salt to give myself a break from plain water. It’s tasty and replenishing (recipe form Real Food for Pregnancy).
