I wish my OBGYN would have warned me

Just a little rant I needed to share. I had a internal exam today, found out I was 2 cm dialated and have had slight cramping. Later at night I go to the bathroom and experiance mild bleeding. I checked again in an hour more bleeding. Called my OBGYN, and was told it's perfectly normal to have bleeding when they check your cervix. What I would like to know is shouldn't they tell you this in the office, before you hav to call the awnsering service and have a mini meltdown?

Re: I wish my OBGYN would have warned me

  • I've been losing large chunks of my mucos plug since my exam. She wanted to check position, and the baby darted out of my pelvis the moment her hand went in my vagina, so she pushed her finger through my one centimeter cervix to feel the head--without warning. Holy ouch.

  • Wow I had my exam today for first time this afternoon. I'm up now still in pain and sore. I knew all thus uncomfort wasn't in my head.
  • Mine told me to expect spotting after she checked me and thank goodness or I would have been in the same boat as you--freaked out and calling!

I definitely think your OB should have told you, but at least now you know all is normal! :)
  • This is my third and my OB reminded me that cramping and bleeding are normal, so yes, your OB should have warned you.
  • Mine did the same thing. Luckily my appt was early morning so I was able to get in touch with the office before they closed that day. I was pretty upset they didn't tell me before.
  • Yes, they should tell you this when they examine you. I wasn't told that I would likely lose my plug after they checked me and it scared the crap out of me, but they have always been good about warning me that I will likely bleed for a few hours and as long as it isn't as heavy as your period it's totally ok. I've also been stuck at 3 cm dilated for about a month with cramping like you said, so don't expect that to change any time soon (didn't know if they left that out at the doctor's office too). Good luck!
