It's probably a boy. The techs do this for a living and have experience to tell the difference. But hey , they are human and can make mistakes. I know two women that were told they were having the opposite gender of what they were really having. So hey, maybe there's a small chance but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Sex. Sex. Sex. You can't tell gender from an ultrasound.

Oh my get over yourself. Right now the gender of my baby is a boy and if he decides when he's older that He would like to be the opposite gender then he can and I'd be okay with that. . But as of right now, his gender is a boy. Thats all that needs to be said. I've seen previous replies from you correcting other women for using that term . Do what's best for you. You don't need to be correcting others. That's not even the point of this thread.
------------- You are very insensitive to the LGTB community. It is a very sensitive topic, and respect their feelings. Sorry you can't have some understanding and understand . that sex =/= gender.

It's not a lack of understanding . I support the LGBT community and even had a friend transition. What bothers me is the OP asked a question and ppl like you are high jacking threads correcting other posters forusing what you believe is the wrong term. This thread is also debating the appropriateness of the term "money shot " It's like no one can say anything without being attacked.

  • @PrimRoseMama‌ -I didn't mean to offend you, honestly. I just feel like the outrage level is a bit high for the perceived offense. @tinktink20‌ already clarified that there is more than one definition of "money shot" and can be googled easily. I don't think it's fair to assume someone meant to bring porno references into the conversation.

    This.
When I hear money shot I, i think of a prize winning photo. Or someone
scoring a point in sports. Different strokes for different folks. I
would like to emphasize it was not @tinktink20 that mentioned porn in
    the first place.
Glad some people have sense ;)

Wait-- you are actually saying you have common sense when you said that?! What?

Yep. The way I used money shot doesn't even make sense with the meaning you think of.....

But you are referring to your child's genitals so........yeah, it makes perfect sense. OMG, I can't with the denseness.

    I can't either!!!
I guess lots of women DON'T pay to get elective ultrasounds to see the money shot of what's between the legs..... Silly me.
  • I agree that the correct term is sex and not gender when you refer to whether your baby is a boy or a girl; however, if someone uses the word "gender" I get what they are trying to say. Nobody is being insensitive to the LGBT community, I seriously don't think anyone is trying to offend others by assuming the gender of their child matches their sex. My baby is a boy and his gender is probably male. If he decides otherwise then that's his decision and I will support him. By assuming my child's gender is male when he is a boy, I'm certainly not trying to "attack" or offend anyone. That's ridiculous. Judging others and creating problems just for the sake to be snarky is what's offensive in my opinion.

As for the money shot term, she didn't mean it as a porn term, it was pretty obvious.

So if I called someone with disabilities retarded it would be ok, because it's just a word and people would know what I meant? Yeah no. Doesn't work like that.
  • @crunchymamaof2 I'll agree to disagree here but seriously....What a horrible example to "prove" or defend your point. That word is hurtful, it degrades and diminishes a human being. The word "gender" refers to either male or female, equally respected, hence not degrading nor attacking anyone.
  • I was actually never aware of the word "money shot" meaning anything pornographic. This has actually been educational. I've heard of the term in photography and filming, but other than that I've been clueless. Thank you for explaining.

OP, I'm sorry the doctor did not confirm completely to your satisfaction about your baby's sex. I would go by what the doctor said and trust his experience. If in doubt, buy neutral. You will eventually learn the sex one way or another.
  • @smeame14 I still think that was an unnecessary word to bring up.

Does gender have a negative connotation in the way that retarded does? If it did then this would be an apt comparison. But I don't believe it does.
I guess I understand what you are saying its like calling an Asian person an oriental, its outdated terminology, so if you want to be current and sensitive you don't use it.  I didn't realize it was even an issue until joining these boards, I will try to to remember to use sex and not gender but I'm not going to side-eye or reprimand anyone if they use the "wrong" word.

YOU say it's not degrading or offending anyone, but how YOU feel about it is a moot point since this doesn't affect you personally. There are many people who still use the word retarted and aren't trying to be offensive despite the fact that they are being offensive. But all bets go out of the window if someone takes the time to explain why it's offensive, yet the person still uses the word. Yes, people in the LGBT community would be offended if people kept using the wrong word even after it was explained. And since you aren't a part of that community, you get no say as to what you think is no big deal. Retarded is "just a word" yet you got offended. Interesting.
I get a say on whatever opinion I am entitled to have. Get your facts straight, I never said it was no big deal to continue to use the wrong word after it was explained why it was wrong. I said if someone uses the word "gender" in replacement of "sex", even though they do not mean the same thing, there is no need to immediately get offended and jump down the person's throat saying she is insulting others because she used the wrong word. That is ridiculous. Again, comparing the meaning/effect of the word "gender" with the word "retarded" is the stupidest type of comparison I have read.
