Stretch Marks..

It's there any lotions or home remedies for stretch marks? I have a few that are extremely dark and I use Palmer's coco butter lotion but it isn't helping.

  • Drink lots of water. Lots. That's what my Dr told me. But yes, mostly its genes, so topicals may not help much

  • There are no creams to prevent them. Sorry! If you're going to get them, there is not much you can do about it.

  • All the cocoa butter in the world, even if you bathed in it, would not prevent stretch marks.

Lotions and oils can moisturize the epidermis, but stretch marks are actually below that layer, in the epidermis.

  • Like everyone else said. I do use 100% African Shae butter and my skin feels great and I have no stretch marks yet. I get it at the African market here in minneapolis
  • I have been using the lotion since I found out I was pregnant and my mom said her marks were worse when she was this far along. I'm just now getting them. Is there anything to lighten them?
  • There is a great product I use from the company I work for and it's actually significantly faded my stretch marks since I started using it! I noticed stretch marks starting to develop on my boobs about 4 weeks ago bc they grew drastically from an A to a D in a very short period of time, so I decided to try out a product the company I distribute from and I was amazed. I'd totally recommend it to every mommy to be or anyone that's developed stretch marks over time! If anyone is interested let me know and I can provide more information!!
  • Although I don't have any stretch marks (yet) I've heard if your mother had them you will most likely get them. Also read on the bump yesterday that although they are purple now they will totally fade and be really light after. Don't worry, you've earned those stripes and a lot of women get them.
  • I use bio oil. I got rid of most of the viability in my stretch marks from gaining/losing weight by using bio oil twice a day for like 6 months. I'm planning on using it during this pregnancy to see how I fair with stretch marks.

I'm using bio oil too! I had old stretch marks on my thighs from gaining weight in college now they're barely visible! I swear by it :)
  • I'm using bio oil too, but more for the mega dryness of my bump and chest that drives me crazy itching if I don't use it. If I happen to not get that many stretch marks it'll just be a bonus. I'm one of the lucky ones who may not get many, my mom didn't get any thru 2 pregnancies and my sis had twins and she only got a couple. #donthate

To throw an opinion out there - I'm one of those people who like scars, tho. So to me stretch marks would be like a badge of honor to have some. Kinda like the way some people feel about their c section scars. A friend of mine has some, and they look like angel wings on her lower belly. Considering they come from her carrying her child, I found it lovely to have a set like that, and told her so. She admits to looking at them differently now. And they ARE quite faded, she showed me pics of them when they first came in.

  • I'm using Palmer's and so far I only have one around my tummy and a LOT on my boobs but I don't think there's any way to prevent them just to get them (scratching, not using moisturizers, etc). On the plus side, after you have your baby they won't be as dark and noticeable...mostly just white!
  • Home remedy for stretch marks = time.
Blessed Mama to the sweetest boy in the world (11/9/13), one angel baby, and two fur babies: Mattie Dog and Stanley Cat.
  • Sorry :-/ If it makes you feel any better, I have some too!
  • I schmear myself in coconut oil from the cooking section of the grocery store after every shower including on my downstairs parts (I think of Baby Mama every time.. can I just spray a little pam down there before the kid comes out?". I don't have any marks yet but I'm sure they're lurking. Waiting. Watching.
  • Just thought I'd share the image below. Always makes me smile.
  • Ive been alternating between palmers stretch mark lotion & coconut oil. Im 22 weeks and dont have any stretch marks (yet at least!)
  • Drinking a lot of water helps too, hydrated skin stretches better than dry skin!
  • Bio Oil 2x day helps. They are genetic but bio oil does help reduce the appearance. Plus if you have a C-section it helps the scar. I used it for my first baby and now for #2. Worth the $ but a little goes a long way.
  • Stretch marks are unavoidable but don't stop using cocoa butter! My friend told me the whole point of cocoa butter and coconut oil and staying hydrated is so that your skin maintains its elasticity and will shrink back more easily after pregnancy. The stretch marks might still be there but you won't be as saggy as you would've been had you used nothing.
  • One of my coworkers said she used Palmer's for her 3 pregnancies. Her mom had gotten a lot of stretch marks, so she expected the same. Her MIL's advice was to slather the lotion on every night before bed to prevent getting them. She did, and said she ended up not getting any stretch marks. I'm using Vaseline cocoa butter atm but I might switch. Haven't seen any marks yet though!
