4moms mamaroo

So I'm kinda big on buying the most expensive stuff because I feel like that means its the best. (I get it from my mom)

So I kinda want the mamaroo swing. What are your opinions on this swing? If you have used it yourself or have just heard things about it?

  • I was looking at this too and not sure how I feel about it. It looks more like a seat than a swing so maybe I need to see it swing in person. I would read reviews on it and see what people say. Somethings expensive is better but not always when it comes to baby stuff. I got a little seat/bouncer type thing for 30 bucks with my first and we used it constantly, it was her favorite of anything we had. They have bouncers that are more than double that price but clearly she didn't mind

  • DH and I saw this in BRU and he was amazed. We will be getting one.

  • I have one. We got it on the Ellen mothers day show a few years back orherwise I dont think We would have bought it just based on price.. If you are looking for a swing this isn't it. This kinda moves up and down and side to side. It's cool you can plug a phone or ipod in it to play music. It has a few different motion settings like wave or car ride motion. We liked it and kept it for DS 2 and are using it in place of a regular swing.
  • I just got one in the mail from my step-mom. I'm excited to try it out when baby arrives! It seems like a lifesaver with the different swing movements and sounds.
  • I'd be hesitant to spend THAT much on a baby item. What if your LO hates it? That happened to a friend. Literally every time the LO was placed in it the baby screamed. Kids are funny...$$ does not = best for babies. Half of DD's xmas presents were tossed aside for the wrapping paper and boxes they came in.

  • My daughter lived in the mamaroo at night. She wanted constant movement when sleeping. We had a regular swing and she hated it. The mamaroo is expensive but definitely worth the money!

  • I nanny for two different families, both have the mamaroo, non of the babies liked it.
  • I got mine in Craigslist for $100. And I sold it for the same amount. We liked it. The kid liked it. But baby doesn't stay little very long for the price. Even for $100 I felt like we didn't use it that much. It's nice. But not for full price. But it does look cool.
  • DS hated it. We used it like 3 times, none of which went well. He liked the giant ugly fisher price swing. :((

If I hadn't gotten one as a gift, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. I hear it's useful for the first few months and then it's just a waste of space. I might be more into it if there wasn't a weight limit and i could take it for a spin.

I would never spend that much money on something for a baby...they out grow stuff way to fast. We got a Graco swing for DD and she LOVED it. It wasn't their cheapest model but we didn't break the bank either.

ETA: I hit post before finishing....if you study how the quality of a product and it's price comparison on a graph you will see that the most expensive never actually means it's the best. I really wish I had a picture right now to explain this better but I can't draw on my phone lol...but as one would expect the quality of the product increases with the price, following a fairly straight line. However at a certain point that line begins to curve and eventually flattens off. This is because at that curve the quality of the product does not increase with the price any more. Basically you are just spending extra money for not a lot of improved quality. The trick is to buy products that fall right at the start of the curve...that is where you get the best quality for your money.

I hope that made sense...my dad spent 35+ years working in finance so it was his job to know random shit like this lol.
Please excuse typos....auto correct hates me. =)

  • I have it and my LO loved it.
  • I really liked it and my son did great in it. I wanted it because when you look space-wise it takes up like half the space of other swings so it was easy to put anywhere!
  • I am glad to read through this thread bc I was interested in getting one. Maybe I will try to find one used as another poster mentioned.

In talking about what is best for the cost, I just bought the book Baby Bargains. The most recent edition came out in 2014, and it is basically consumer reports for baby stuff. They give you Good, Better, Best options, and are clear about when models that cost more are not the best!
  • I bought a used one for $100. It works perfectly (I checked :)) and it feels much more worth getting with it being that much cheaper. Plus you can get replacement seats from 4moms. I've heard it's really only useful for about 3-4 months, so I'm getting a regular swing as well. It looks like it'll be a life saver!
  • I own it and used it with my 1st.  I didn't have the room for a huge swing so in that aspect it was good.  It serves an identical purpose to any other swing so there wouldn't be a need to own both.  I will say it doesn't go very fast and that can be a huge deal breaker as some babies need a lot more movement to calm down.  I will be using mine again for this baby but I know a ton of moms that sold theirs to get regular swings.

If I didn't already own it I would actually prefer this:

  • We have it and used it for DD. She loved it, but like previous posters mentioned, we didn't use it for very long. We still have it for baby #2. Hope they like it.
  • We have one and did use it with my 2 year old but honestly he LOVED the fisher price snuggle swing WAY better... Momma Roo was good in our room for those rough nights but I don't know if I'd buy one again. May be this baby will like it better. They are all different :)
