I made (what I thought would be) my first OB appointment for an US and all that jazz on the 23rd. By that point I was 9w4d. I got to the doctor and they had me give a urine sample for a pregnancy confirmation test. My doctor came in, told me I was pregnant (yes, thank you, I knew that already...), gave me a packet of info and told me to schedule my appointment for two weeks from then. She said she didn't want to disappoint me if we couldn't hear the heart beat that day since it was so early, and it didn't sound like I would be able to see an ultrasound picture at my next appointment either - just the heart beat. I am SO frustrated and ANTSY to see and hear this baby! I've had virtually no symptoms so I've really been counting on that kind of an experience to make it hit home for me. Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?
Re: Anyone else have to wait until 10w or more for 1st US?
I won't get an ultrasound until I'm 12 weeks.
Its more common than you think. Unless you've had a history of miscarriage or if you're considered high risk, most ultrasounds aren't done until later. Some people only ever get their anatomy scan around 20 weeks.
With Peanut 2 due in late August, I'm 9w5d today, and STILL haven't even had my first OB appt! My new OB doesn't take women for first appts until they are 10w or further along! So Friday I'll be 10w0d and he agreed to see me. I have no idea if there will be an ultrasound or not. I'm kind of pushy, and perfectly happy to try bossing him into taking a peek. I heard most docs like to have a little look at the 10w mark just to make sure the pregnancy is viable but it's USUALLY with the doppler not necessarily an US. Hang in there Mama! If doc doesn't think there is a reason to worry, then try not to....I know it's hard!
I know it's nerve-wracking and super annoying but hang in there! You'll be seeing your baby before you know it
I am also not high risk. It is just the way my doctor runs her practice. I will also have an u/s at 13 weeks for nuchal testing.
Trust your body and baby and dr- if not it is going to be a long 40 weeks.
So while its normal, it's not always easy to wait.

I guess it's just different doctors and their preference.
It's nice to see the baby but it's tough to take time off work each time and have to pay $100+ for each one especially now that I've had to quit one of my jobs (required lifting). As tough as it would be to have to wait so long for an ultrasound, part of me wishes I could go much less because it's getting expensive between missing work and paying each time. :-/
My first actual appointment wasn't until I was 11 weeks, and they didn't do anything besides talk to me and do a physical exam. My next appointment in a week I'll be almost 15 weeks and we MIGHT hear the heart beat. The appointment after that is the anatomy scan! I'm high risk, so I'm not sure what that means because so far they don't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary.
I know how hard it is to wait, my first pregnancy was so boring and uneventful, I only had a dating u/s and my anatomy scan (and I definitely wanted more appts and scans). But the flip side is so much worse. I'm sorry you have to wait, I know how excited you must be! I hope your first scan goes wonderfully!!!
