So, who's still drinking coffee?

I know the jury is still sort of out on this topic but I'm curious who is still drinking coffee?

I love coffee.  I only drink one medium sized iced coffee from DD every day.  Occasionally, I would get a small iced coffee in the afternoons but rarely and I've decided I should let that go or drink decaf/green tea.  Is anyone giving it up completely or still having at least one cup a day?

I'm also going to miss soft cheeses like bleu and feta :(  I just bought a giant container of feta from BJ's last weekend before I got the BFP...oh well, LOL

Re: So, who's still drinking coffee?

  • I had my cup of coffee yesterday morning. Within minutes I was a shaky, jittery mess who felt like I couldn't catch my breath (this has never happened to me before in the history of my coffee drinking career) and then I puked. Apparently coffee is not my friend anymore...... which really blows because I got 3 hours of sleep last night and I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to make it through work.

  • I am having coffee, but only decaf...and only one cup a day (well, I think it's 14 oz)...

  • I am still drinking it, though I slowly switched to half caf/half decaf when we started TTC just to get my body used to it. I have also heard that 200 mg a day is fine (but that includes everything... coffee, chocolate, tea, etc.) I am doing a cup of half caf in the morning and then a small latte in the afternoon. Or a frappacino, which feels amazing on my upset belly.

Just make sure your cheese is pasteurized and you are fine. I would really miss feta cheese, good thing it's ok.
  • Oh wow, I didn't know coffee was a no no! I usually have one cup in the morning but if it's bad for the baby I'll stop. I don't want to do anything that might hurt my baby even if it only might hurt!
  • One cup a day over here
  • I'm sticking to my 1 cup of coffee as long as it doesn't make me through up! But I do monitor my caffeine intake from not only coffee too
  • I drink a cup in the morning, then have a cup of decaf in the afternoon for a psychosomatic lift.

@Kishybishy92‌ it's the caffeine in the coffee that could be bad for the baby and you'll find caffeine in more than coffee. Like energy drink and different type of beverage (coca cola to name one), tea and chocolate...
  • One cup a day over here, just drink lots of water too
  • I was just getting on the bump to ask the same thing! I'm just having a 10 Oz cup of half caff every morning. And I do love chocolate in the evening. Glad to hear I'm not the only one, I was feeling guilty!
  • I can't give up my skinny vanilla lattes :))
  • I never really needed to drink coffee! I just get enough sleep at night and I wake up with natural energy :) I've definitely been tired by dinner time, so I throw in a tiny bit of cardio to wake me and my little jellybean up! I do notice that the smell walking by a Starbucks has been making me a bit green.
  • I'm having a half a cup of coffee in the morning and I mix it with hot cocoa to fill up my mug. It tastes great my husband thinks it's disgusting lol has anyone tried it!?
  • Thanks for the info about cheese!  I'll check the label.

Also glad to hear other bumpies still having coffee.  It isn't really about the caffeine for me as it is about the taste.  I just love it!  I may try half caf just in case, though.  I don't really drink anything except for water during the day and decaffeinated iced tea.  Haven't drank soda for years! (had WLS).

  • I can't give up coffee I tried but the caffeine withdrawal headaches r so bad I was in tears. Dr told me a lol coffee is better than the pain meds I would need to stop the headaches.
  • Still having one cup a day. I'm a former 3-4 cups a day, so going to one has been hard. Last pregnancy it turned my stomach so I'm hoping that doesn't happen again. I love my Dunkins!
  • @Tourmaline15‌ I never told anyone not to eat chocolate (pregnant or not)just that it contains small amount of caffeine...
  • I never was a big coffee drinker but now I don't drink it at all. I do however have one (sometimes two) dr. Pepper's a day. It's my weakness and I've cut down seeing as I used to do 3-4. I did the same type of thing with dd and she came out perfectly happy and healthy
  • I have always enjoyed coffee before I was pregnant. I quit drinking it while pregnant with my first, but got bad headaches. I spoke to Doc about it and was told that a 6oz cup in the morning is absolutely fine. I've drank the recommended amount through both pregnancies and am now drinking it with my third. Moderation is key :-)

  • Oh no! I can give up coke and coffee but chocolate will be so hard :(. Do they make caffeine free chocolate?

Lighten up people, it was a joke!!!!!!

Chocolate does not contain enough caffeine to be concerned. You'd have to eat an obscene amount everyday for it to be too much caffeine.

Oh phew! Thanks! I am a first time mom so I have no idea about some of this stuff!
  • I usually love my coffee, but when I'm pregnant I can't really stand the smell of it. Crazy, I know! I usually love the smell! So I don't usually drink it, though I will have the occasional soda.

  • I gave up caffeine :/ I'm a plus size mommy to be and I'm already nervous about an MC, so I'm trying to do whatever I can. I have read thought that 200 mg is okay- for now I will just smell it longingly lol
  • I've been drinking half a cup daily. I cannot imagine giving it up. I did give it up cold turkey last time but this time it's harder for some reason!

  • I'm still drinking coffee, though the last couple days, it irritated my stomach s bit. I used to consume OBSCENE amounts of caffeine, back before I had my son, but now I drink 1-2 cups a day, but not every day.

When I was pregnant with my son, I tried to go off caffeine altogether and hit horrible headaches. My doctor actually recommended increasing my caffeine intake, which I did.

Unless your doctor says otherwise, it's probably ok to have a cup of coffee in the morning.

  • I drink decaf because caffeine makes me a jittery mess.  So, I haven't really had to change my coffee habits.  I also don't drink alcohol, so that hasn't been a problem, either.  I actually sometimes don't feel like I'm pregnant because I'm also having very few obvious symptoms.  I'm sure now that I wrote that, I'll start feeling nauseous all day!

This is me 100%. I LOVE the taste of it. But since my loss was last month, I am just waiting to hear the heart beat then I will probably drink my cup a day. This had been my first week in 4 years that I haven't had a cup a day. I can't believe I have hard horrible head aces or something.

One cup of coffee brewed at home is supposed to be within the limit! Just one though! (And coffee at a coffee shop is normally higher in Caff)
I've cut down to half caff and i have 1 or 2 cups at home each morning, which should be 150mg per Kcups.

    Good for you!
  • I gave up caffeine when I got with my husband in April (before you judge, we were extremely close friends since 2009) because he is allergic. This includes chocolate even.

If I were you ladies, I wouldn't. I didn't give up soda my first pregnancy thinking a little wouldn't hurt, and I miscarried. I am not saying it's the cause because there was a lot going on at that time too including stress and my job's AC breaking so I had to work in unbearable heat in a Southern state, and surely other things, but, I will never know. And that worry will never leave me.

Hopefully, you will all be fine, but if something goes even the slightest wrong, you will wonder. Apples have properties that help you wake up so maybe eat one in the morning and one mid-day but I wouldn't mess around with any drug/chemical this early.

Your husband is allergic to caffeine?! What kind of reaction does he have?

He blacks out with small amounts. If he ingests too much it could kill him. If we are around something fragrant, such as coffee or a place that has a lot of unwrapped/melted chocolate he will even get a little irritated.

  • I was fully planning to continue having my beloved cup-a-day but it's my first aversion-- I can't stand it now. Was expecting to have nasty withdrawal headaches but I've been spared so far. Pregnancy is weird.

  • I will go back to drinking a latte a day in the 2nd trimester.  I stopped caffeine in the 1st trimester with my DD and so I'll do the same again.  It's killing me though.  I got a new Nespresso maker 1 WEEK before I found out I was pregnant... I was drinking a homemade vanilla latte when I got my BFP and promptly poured the rest down the drain. ::sigh::
    BFP on 1/27/11 - EDD 10/7/11 - M/C on 2/21/11 @ 7w3d

  • I'm sticking with my one cup a day. I am giving up the occasional glass of wine and I don't smoke. I'm keeping my one cup of coffee.
  • I have my usual 1 cup but I'm running around chasing my little one in the morning so I only end up drinking half. I'm def dragging ass at the end of the day. ~O)
