Amnio for cystic fibrosis

We've kept pregnancy quiet (12 wk) from all but our parents because I'm 40 and 1st pregnancy so high risk. Just found out a few days ago that we are both CF carriers, so now waiting to schedule amnio and I guess results take four weeks (25% chance baby has CF). Tried for CVS test because quicker results but dr says that's not offered here unless an emergency (very rural area, already have to go 70 miles for amnio). So now we are looking at 18-20 weeks into pregnancy before we have those results. It's just discouraging to not be able to be excited or tell anyone about the pregnancy for that much longer if at all, depending how things work out. I thought pregnancy would be a happy time. Now my clothes are tight, I can't drink, and still can't tell anyone! Just need to vent!

    Personally, I'd still tell people. I know its not the same, but I had to get tested a few weeks ago to see if I was a carrier cause I found out my sister was. I'm not, so it eventually was a non-issue, but my husband and I had already discussed with the doctor that even if I was positive, and my husband was positive, we weren't even going to do the further testing to see if the baby had CF. We also opted out of any of the other screening tests though besides the anatomy scan to rule out any major obstacles that need to be helped before birth or quickly afterwards. The way I see it, if it happens, it happens. Its something that we would know to check for right away, find out about shortly after birth and would be make sure the doctors were prepared for the possibility, but it would not have changed our excitement about our new little baby. Even if you find out that your LO has cystic fibrosis, he/she is still a little miracle to be celebrated. That's hard though, and I can understand why you would have conflicted feelings about it. I know how worried I was just waiting for my individual results. Good luck with everything, and I hope your LO is perfectly okay!
