Stroller/Carseat suggestions

Ok ladies, it's been about 8 years since I've shopped for a stroller/carseat combo and no one I know has had any kids in the last 10 years (babies are a rare event around here lol). So What brands do you suggest? The DH and I went shopping for one at Babies R Us a couple weeks ago and I had to pop my eyeballs back into my face after the sales associate recommended a couple that were priced at about $500!!! Holy crap Bertha and then she says "These are the only ones that are worth awhile, the rest are unsafe and garbage" to which I asked if that was the case then why was the store selling them she said "Well it's your babies funeral, not mine" flipped her hair and walked away. Anywho, after that the DH and I were sticker shocked and left buying nothing (98% because of the cruddy sales associate, but also we just didn't find anything). What brand do you love? What were/are the pros and cons and if you don't mind me asking what did you pay?

Re: Stroller/Carseat suggestions

  • All car seats pass the same safety inspections and are safe. It just depends on if the installation is correct and, if your child is strapped in correctly.

Some seats are designed to make that easier. That is what you pay for.

I bought the Britax B Agile travel system. I like it, but if I could do it over I would have bought the chicco key fit (easier to install).

It looks like that lady is trying to sell something. (Commission???)

  • I'd add that b agile stroller is great. If I did the chicco I would have gotten the city mini and adapter for the seat (which is a similar stroller)

  • I have/love the Graco travel system...it will run you high $200's to low $300's and includes the stroller and seat. Then you can get a 2nd base if you have 2 cars so you can have the seat in either car. The stroller is big even folded, but sturdy.
  • We have the Chicco key fit which at the time had the best ratings. If I had to buy it again, I'd go with he infant seat with the highest height limit. Our LO hit the height limit by 10 months and we had to buy a convertible seat.

As for strollers, we LOVE our city mini gt! It's perfect for errands and long walks. I even use it as a jogging stroller for short runs. If you wanted to save some, you could go for the city mini which is only slightly different (it's missing a few features- I can't remember but they're minor) and a decent amount less.
  • I'm doing this Chicco one. I had Chicco for my first and loved it, except the stroller was too heavy for me. I'm only 4'10". This one is much lighter. image
  • We went with the maxi cosi combo and loved it! We will definitely go maxi cosi again.

  • Chicco keyfit has good reviews, and the target here had them marked down recently! They discontinued the color apparently
  • I would just like to point out that while all car seats have to pass the same safety tests, they are by no means all equal in terms of safety. Some are rated safer than others and further research will give you that info. Think of it as saying all cars are equally safe, sure they all pass certain crash tests but there are those that are safer than others (and usually pricier).

  • We love Britax carseats....they can be on the pricier side, but in my opinion worth it.  For a stroller I have a Bugaboo Frog, but I believe the Frog was discontinued.  I love love love it.  It is now almost five years old, and it is in pristine condition...this will be the third baby that uses it.
  • The Chicco Keyfit system is great. Even works well in older cars if you have to install using a seatbelt.
  • We fell in love with the modes sport click system by graco. The car seat is extremely light (important for me as I am barely 4'9 and once you add a baby those things get heavy! It also have a seat that is a bassinet, a regular seat, and you can click the car seat into just the base or with the regular seat attached. The stroller base is also super light and has one handed fold and unfold. It's $400 at buy buy baby, but as we will be having more kids (god willing) we are definitely getting that one!
  • We LOVE our Graco Click Connect set. The stroller is a dream to fold up/un fold and to put away, and the car seat is so easy to move from car to car (we have 2 bases for each car). It also gives the option of attaching the infant seat to the stroller, then a toddler seat for when they're older.

We get compliments on it all the time.

I would check when this expires. Most carseats expire after 5 years.
  • Thinking about going with the graco fast action travel system. Does anyone have experience with this stroller? Does it fold easily? Is it big and bulky when folded? Does it grow well with a child?
  • We just bought the Uppababy Vista (2014 model was on clearance because they have the 2015's in stock now). And we got the adapter to get the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio car seat. We chose the stroller because I loved having the bassinet with it too. And we hope to have more kids and not have to buy another stroller because this one has another seat.
  • Whatever you get... I'd recommend a. Infant carrier seat that has a strap in the front by baby's legs to tighten and loosen the harness straps. Much easier than monkeying around with the back of the seat!

We have a graci snugride seat... Strollers... Our sit and stand is graci and we had baby trend jogging strollers too.

  • People suck! I have a Graco snugride 35 that we will be using again. I recommend a snap n go stroller, the kind that fits a universal infant seat.

It sounded like the stroller was 5 years old not the car seat. I could be wrong.

OP, I would really suggest getting on the Car Seats for the Littles facebook group and posting exactly what you are looking for in terms of a car seat. They probably won't be as much help in finding the compatible stroller (though you could always ask for one that has one), but you can post your car, budget, whether you and DH are unusually tall (meaning baby would do better in one with a high height limit), etc...

It is a really valuable resource, and they are great with car seat recommendations - many from certified techs. Something to consider also is if you plan to use the car seat in the middle position, some cars do not allow latch there (meaning many do not have dedicated latch in the middle position - only on the sides), and car seats are not all created equal when it comes to ease of install and getting a secure fit with the seat belt.

Also many infant seats, despite being marketed as an infant seat, do not fit newborns well at all - the lowest harness slots are too high. The Graco Sungride 22 is a great example of this. Most newborns cannot safely fit in this seat. This is something the Car Seats for the Littles group can warn you about before you go out and buy a seat that doesn't even end up fitting your LO safely.

FWIW we have a Graco Snugride 30 that we were pretty happy with till we switched DD to a convertible at around 10 months old (just because). The car seat has a front adjust for the harness (something also lacking in some infant seats - you have to adjust the harness from the back of the seat), it fit our daughter well from the beginning, while bulky, the stroller has done what we needed it to (mainly walks around the neighborhood). I rarely used it away from home anyway.
  • I like the Chicco key fit. We used that one 5 years ago with our youngest and will get this brand again with this baby! I like the Baby Jogger strollers. We had the City Mini, then got the City Elite. I will upgrade to the City Select for this baby because it offers so many choices on how to transport the baby. You can buy car seat adaptors to connect to these strollers, and you can connect Chicco and other brands.
  • Thank you ladies for the great info, it really has helped. I didn't put much thought into how big our baby would be and I would like to keep him/her rear facing for as long as possible, my DH is 6'4" and I'm 6'0" so I can venture a guess and say our baby will be tall too haha :) We're more than willing to pay for a great quality brand that has great ratings, but anything over $500 seemed a little steep to us because this will be our last (tubal here I come!!) To the poster who mentioned the facebook page, thank you because I'm looking it up right now. Again thank you all for your advice and suggestions, now we have a starting place.
  • I would seriously report that employee. And I dont say that lightly. That was incredibly insensitive and inappropriate. she needs a serious talking to.

  • @jenandbrett we did report her before we left, the manager was shocked to say the least and said that type of behavior was completely inexcusable and was grounds for immediate termination, upon which he walked over to her and told her that she was fired (my DH and I hid behind the shelves of baby books watching this whole thing unfold, I know we're weird) for her behavior towards a customer. I felt bad for her for just a minute then quickly got over it.
  • We had the Chico key fit and LOVED it! We will be using the same one this time around. We had bought the whole travel system. If I could do over I'd get the Chico key fit and a snap and go stroller. I liked the Chico stroller but it was so heavy and big.
  • I did some research and found the Graco Aire3 click connect w/ snugride click 35, the video made it seem really neat and it only weighs 21 pounds. The other feature I liked was the seat in the stroller would recline all the way back and the foot part flips up and connects to make it into a bassinet. I'm going to go check it out in person soon I hope, I found the facebook group 'Car Seats for Littles" and am going to use that too before I make a purchase.
  • We're rocked the prego baby seat and the city select. Now onto the Perego convertible. I never got a car seat adapter because we had a bassinet attachment. I was pretty concerned with the whole flat head thing.

These were the most expensive purchases we made for our main man. The rest were all kijiji and hand me downs.

There are cheaper options but if they were truly unsafe they'd be recalled.

The stroller is five years old.
  • We have the Graco click connect travel system. It grows with the child, which is great. It is super easy to get in and out of the car, literally one click. I found the stroller to be very bulky to deal with along with the infant carrier/car seat

This time I'm going to get the lighter stroller frame to use this time with the carrier until he grows out of it and then I'll use the travel system stroller

Literally us with DS, love our city select, loved our peg prego (Which I already replaced as it expired between babies) and the bassinet is awesome. I walk a lot and have put serious Km on the stroller still looks new- easy to push in snow, adjustable handle hight, easy turning- basically I love it.
Money well spent, the rest of our major stuff was second hand, borrowed, gifted and DIYed.

  • I really hate that she was fired,, but thank you for saying something. If she would have said that to someone like me who has lived through their child dying, my goodness, it would be horrible. I would probably have just collapsed to the ground crying. But back to your question, this is the car seat I'm going to get for this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DT7TZB6/?&tag=ttr_baby_car_seats-20&ascsubtag=[site|ttr[cat|890[art|NA[pid|59665[tid|NA[bbc|NA. It's rated very high in safety and is quite affordable. And I have researched everywhere Andy his is then set deal on this one. I think it's going to be great.

Have any of you had a jogging stroller travel system? I have been looking at the graco fast action jogger but a lot of the reviews say it's bulky but that's to be expected from a jogging stroller. I don't think I'll be using a stroller while I'm shopping or out and about. I'll mostly use it for walks and running. So, if you have a jogger do you find it too cumbersome? What else would you recommend?
  • As for stroller a 3 wheel is way easier to handle one handed then a 4 wheel one and bike tires on it mean a smoother ride for baby
  • We will be reusing our bugaboo cameleon stroller still from our son who just turned 4.
Out Graco car seat will be expiring this year since it's from 2010 so we will be getting a differnt one this time. I think we are going with the maxi cosi.

  • We bought the graco snugride as our infant bucket seat and then my daughter is now in the Diono Radian RXT (LOVE LOVE LOVE)....we will use the Graco seat for our second and buy a Diono when she is around one.
Stolller - since we knew we wanted to two, we bought the Baby Jogger City Select and we love it! We use it a lot and was well worth the money.
I think there are a lot of good products out there now, you won't go wrong!
    Happy Shopping!

  • Just watched a video over the city select jogger... Mind. Blown.
  • My husband and I were shopping for car seat combos and found that Target was cheaper than Babies R Us for the exact same Britax car seat. Plus the sales people at Babies R Us in Bellevue, WA are rude so we'll be sticking with Target. Just wanted to let you know so you could maybe find what you want cheaper. Also check out Amazon! :-)
  • I recommend the Chicco Keyfit 30 carseat and base and Chicco Liteway stroller, if it is in your budget. You can snap your carseat into the stroller then snap it back into the car very easily. And when baby is bigger, the stroller converts into an umbrella-style stroller. We have taken ours on two trips as well, including Disneyland, and it worked out just fine.

My alternate suggestion (if this is cheaper than the Liteway stroller) would be to get the Chicco Keyfit stroller frame, then get a cheap umbrella stroller when your kid is bigger.
