PSA regarding the new Bump Terms of Use

Hi First Tri ladies,

Please be advised that the new Terms of Use, updated January 27, 2015, allows The Bump to use any content you have posted, including pictures, in any way they wish. In other words, if you have posted a picture of your child in a post or in your signature, they are free to use the image for promotion, advertising, etc., without seeking your permission or reimbursing you for use. This decision has caused some long-time members to delete their accounts and join other communities, even if they have remained with TB following other recent disagreements. I wanted all current users to be aware of the change, which was not well publicized by The Bump. The relevant paragraph reads:

"If you submit or post any materials or content to the Site, you grant us and our business partners a royalty free, perpetual, irrevocable, transferrable, assignable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use such materials and content, including alterations thereof, for our business purposes, in any form, in any media, and via any technology we choose, whether it exists now or is created in the future. You represent that any materials and content posted or otherwise submitted by you to the Site is original to you and that you have the right to grant us these rights."

That's messed up. They do give you the option to opt out though. Granted, it's a PITA.

ETA: you can ask that your post history, or pictures of your child be removed for privacy reasons.

You cannot opt out of parts of the Terms of Use. What you can do, as @primrosemama indicated, is request that your post history be deleted- although this can only be done if also request your account is deleted.

Which will take an act of congress to get done 99% of the time
