My husband and I pretty much did or own shower bc our families live at least 4 hrs away. We did just a low key bbq with all of our friends and families. To each their own. We were happy with it and that's all that matters.
I'm a planner myself but I'm not involving myself in my own baby shower unless asked. So far I've just helped coordinate dates since so many people are far away and my best friend is flying in just to see me.
This is intense...however, I am planning my baby shower but my MIL is paying for it. We discussed ideas and I am a very low key person- so its just a family get together. Originally my sister in law from that side was going to plan it, and still says she will, but she got pregnant right after me and will be about 6 1/2 7 months pregnant with her first as well and I don't want to lay that all on her when I wont be able to provide 100% of my time to her shower with a 1 month old. My MIL worries that she is not planning things right and I think it gives her panic attacks. We would do it together but I live in another state due to Military circumstances. So, yes there are different reasons and ideas behind this....its not like I woke up and said I want a baby shower from this side of the family alone and I am planning it all...it happened and I feel I don't want to crowd anyone's life planning it considering we are all working women in the family and have lots on each of our plates.
