Back, Hip, and Leg Pain

Hi! I don't think I've ever posted in the forums before (I'm just not really social to be honest) but I was wondering if anyone could provide some advice!
I've been experiencing some serious discomfort with my back, hips, and legs lately. I went in for my 35 week appointment Friday morning and was told that my little boy is nestled up against my spine, so I can attribute the back pain to that; however, i'm not entirely sure thats what's causing the aches and pains in my hips and legs. Im sure I can blame adjustments in my pelvic bone for some of the hip discomfort, but its getting to the point where Im getting little to no sleep at all at night now.

I also should mention Ive been fairly sick and was in the hospital last week for 8 hours due to dehydration, but Im sure im not dehydrated now.

I've also noticed some extra redness and puffiness in my legs so Im guessing poor circulation is also an issue.

Thank you for any and all advice and suggestion!!

Re: Back, Hip, and Leg Pain

  • Sorry to hear this! But I think its par for the course with pregnancy. My first pregnancy was perfect, not a problem. But this one is a whole new ball game. My sciatic nerve is pinches on both sides which makes it hard to walk at all. the lower back pain is unbearable, i have internal varicose veins which is not only totally sexy but hurts like a bitch and I also have carpal tunnel in my right hand to my elbow. My hips and joints are so sore i have to sit to put on pants because I can't lift my legs. Its all the hormones and stretching of ligaments and all that good stuff. All the joys of creating life. Stay hydrated, try to rest. Lots of pillows between the legs have helped a bit at night, and ice packs too. I also have a back brace and a V2 supporter - again, totally sexy. The good news is its almost over!

  • Only a few more weeks to go! Wishing I could end you some comfort along with my t&ps :)
  • I highly suggest seeing a chiropractor. Very helpful.
  • My lower back is also killing me and it's sore right under my boobs where my belly pushes up. I sleep with a giant pillow nest!! So hard to get comfortable! My partner often wakes in the morning with no pillows! Feels like there is no room for my lungs. I need to start trying to eat smaller meals during day too if I eat too much feels like my tummy will explode and stretching way too much!! So uncomfortable!! I'm 34 weeks now but scans measuring 1-2 weeks ahead. Not long for us to go now!! Xo
  • Chiropractors are amazing with helping with the aches and pains! Otherwise, it's unfortunately totally normal. I hate to say it but it usually gets worse before it gets better. Maybe try some stretches and moving around(which I know at this point is easier said than done.) hope you feel better and get some relief soon though!
  • Definitely stay well hydrated, as that's important for circulation and regular functioning. Also try adding some stretches and/or light walking into your day - hip rocking (cat and cow yoga stretches), sitting cross-legged, and sitting on a yoga ball all help me. Chiropractor is also great.
  • So what your doctor may have not explained completely is that a baby in that position could cause sciatic pain. So if the pain you're having starts in your lower back and shoots down to your leg, that has a lot to do with baby positions. Generalized aches are unfortunately going to happen when you pack on anywhere from 25-50 pounds though.

My concern would be the redness and puffiness in your legs in addition to pain. Did you mention this to your doctor on Friday? A lot of women experience swelling, but if it's sudden swelling, redness, and pain it could be a bigger issue.

  • My only thought is this... you are pregnant. You will be uncomfortable, especially during the last few weeks. We all have aches and pains.
  • I don't want to worry you, but I suspect you may be a woman in her third trimester of pregnancy.
OMG! You can't just out and say that! You're going to freak her out; and you don't KNOW she's a woman, or in her third tri; I mean, other than the fact that she said so... but you're no doctor!!!
  • Prenatal massages are amazingggg! Also throw a pillow in between your knees when you sleep (on your side) that has helped me A LOT! Good luck :)
  • Huh? Pain in the third trimester of pregnancy? Who knew....
  • Sounds like you're 35 weeks pregnant. But I'm no dr, so I may be wrong
