Nurseries and Baby Gear

18weeks #2-nursery?

I'm pregnant with number 2 right now. I have an almost two and a half year old and am wondering if there is a good or bad time to set up Nursery for #2. my concerns are mainly for my toddler. earlier or later better? TIA!

Re: 18weeks #2-nursery?

  • We are in a similar boat. I'm 27w and we have a 20 mo old. Haven't started doing anything for the nursery yet other than ordering the big stuff. Curious. Do you have a second bedroom that you will use for the new baby? We are keeping our daughter in her room, since we can, and are trying to keep things as consistent as possible for her. When thr glider and dresser are ready for delivery, we will start setting up the nursery. I would think that it would be nice for her to have time to get used to the new room (which has always been a guest room).

  • Yes, Exact Same Here! We Have A Guest Room/Office That We Will Use For The New Nursery. I Want To Keep It A Guest Room As Long As Possible, But I Started Wondering If Maybe We Should Set Up Earlier As Opposed To Later To Help Ds Get Used To The New Idea/Life. Also I'm getting Anxious Already, Lol!
  • Mine were a little closer in age. 21 mos apart. We did the nursery about 2 mos before the baby got here, just to get her used to the idea that another baby would be there. She was fascinated by the crib, but other than that, not that interested. She loved putting her toys in the baby crib. Training her not to do that before the baby got here came in handy.
  • We're in the same boat. I'm really concerned about our DD as well. I just don't want to bombard her with all of these changes all at the same time.  She will be 2.5 yrs when this baby is here.  I'm thinking about having her big girl room done a month or so before the baby arrives. That way she can still sleep in the crib if she wants to and she can get used to her big girl room too.  We did buy her furniture already and a mattress and she seems to be pretty excited about that.  I just know we'll probably be potty training this summer too.. she's so close to being ready and I just don't want her to have a hard time with everything going on.  She's probably my biggest concern. it's going to be a big adjustment for me as well because we have a 3 bdrm house and we've listed it twice and just can't seem to sell the darn thing.  So our plan is to put our master into our finished basement and have all the kids on the 2nd floor.  I hate being farther away from them! We don't have much of a choice though. :(

  • DS Is Pretty Much potty Trained And He Has Been In A Twin Bed For Over 6 Months. So It's Really Just The Baby That Will Be New. I Definitely Sugges Transitioning To A New Bed/ Room Sooner Than Later. Some Kids Hav A Hard Time With That.
