Cold and pregnancy?

Hi all! So I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant and unfortunately I came down with a nasty cold:/ I called my doctor and she only recommended drinking lots a fluids and saline solution for my nose. I know a cold is a virus and you have to let it run it's coarse, but I was wondering if you guys have any other natural remedies to help ease this nasty thing?

Re: Cold and pregnancy?

  • I swear by soaking a clove of garlic in hot water and then eating it when it softens a bit. It always clears my sinuses and within a few days the cold is completely gone. It may not pair well with heartburn though if you are suffering from that right now.

Sleep with a humidifier, eucalyptus oil can help clear your nose, get lots of rest, drink lots of water. I'm just getting over the nasty stuff! Hope yours goes away quickly!

Edit: just whiff the oil or drop a couple drops in the back of your shower. Speaking of showers, standing in a hot, steamy shower helps a lot!
  • I had never used saline nasal spray before this pregnancy, but I have to say it's been my saving grace! I've had 2 or 3 bad colds that DS was nice enough to pass along to me and the saline spray has really helped me clear everything out before it got worse.

My doctor also told me that I can take Benedryl for sinus related stuff, but I really try not to. Just lots of water, orange juice and saline spray

  • Another vote for the saline spray!
  • I'm at the tail end of a gross head cold myself (it seems really to be nagging this time!!!), and I agree to steaming, humidifier, lots of fluids... I've also been drinking emergen-C through my keurig as a hot drink to try to clear it out.

  • A drop or two of the eucalyptus oil massaged on your chest helps a lot, too. Good luck and feel better.
