2 soft markers

Looking for some words of wisdom... I just got back from my anatomy scan and there were 2 soft markers- echogenic focus on the heart and a cyst on the brain (forgot the medical term). The doctor said that both can be completely normal, but the combination of both makes it slightly more concerning. I had previously had the panorama testing done and it was negative for any genetic abnormalities, so I am thinking I don't have much reason to worry, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any words of wisdom for me. Has anyone had experience with both of these markers? Thanks in advance for advice!

Re: 2 soft markers

  • Hey there, I've heard that the Panorama test is VERY accurate, so I wouldn't worry too much. If both can be completely normal, I bet it's just a coincidence that they both happened together. I'm sure everything will be fine! Deep breath!

  • I had two soft markers too- echogenic focus and high NT level. We did the amnio to find out for sure and LO was fine.

My specialist says the echogenic focus is very common, even with nothing amiss.

Don't worry! You should be fine. :) FX that it's nothing!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I haven't been able to find much about people with 2 soft markers. Everything that I've researched (I know, I need to stay off google) says that the eif is no big deal, but those seem to talking about when they are in isolation. My risks are still lower than the risks of an amnio, so I think I'll just try to remain positive until week 28.

If you're not already high risk, then I'd have done the same. I did the amnio because I'm over 30 and my partner is 37 so we started out as higher risk. :)

FX that it's all good! Keep your head up mama!
  • If you combine 2 of my ultrasounds this pregnancy I would have two markers..The NT scan came back with an absent nasal bone (freaked out)...I did the MaterniT21 blood test which came back negative, had our Anatomy scan yesterday, the absent nasal bone appeared, but so did a very small choroid plexus cyst (spelling might be off but that's what they're called). MFM was not at concerned, esp. with the negative blood test. Try not to worry, more often than not the cysts resolve themselves, and many of these soft markets turn out to be nothing.

Thank you! That is helpful to hear!

  • At my 13 week US, they found two soft markers for DS on Baby A. I was terrified. They were the head and neck. I took the Maternity 21 test and after worrying and crying for 2 weeks found out that both babies were negative. Very scary stuff and I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

  • I had 3 soft markers with my youngest son, but he was born healthy.

  • I just wanted to share this story even though it is not my personal experience. My aunt was told with all three of her sons that they either had T18 or DS due to soft markers of either high NT and/or cysts on the brain. All three were born perfectly healthy and are naval officers and engineers. She had to do amnio since they didn't have the blood tests that we have access to now, but when we went through our scare I kept this story in mind and it made me feel more at peace.

Everything that I have read has said the paranorma tests are much more accurate than the soft markers. T&P your way :).
