Re: Gift for wife: suggestions needed

  • Wow! I really admire you! You seem like a great husband! Im sure whatever you chose to do, your wife will love and appreciate it more than you will ever know! I wish my SO was as thoughtful as you are!

  • Out of the suggestions you gave, I think I like the baby related jewelry idea the most.  I'd like to get something for her rather than the baby.  Also, she's a teacher so she already has a ridiculous amount of children's books, and we just got lots of baby stuff from our families for Christmas.

Are there any pregnancy products you can think of that might help her feel better?  Kind of something a pregnant woman could use to pamper herself?  I want to take her shopping to get her one of those maternity body pillows soon.  Obviously that's more of a functional gift and isn't very romantic, but if you can think of anything along those lines that will help her feel more comfortable while she's pregnant... that would be awesome.

Preggie Pops and/or Preggie Pop Drops specifically for the nausea. Also ginger gum.
  • @FirstTimeDaddy81‌ You are so sweet! My ideas would be something that incorporates your ultrasound photos.

    here are some ideas:

  • Not sure if you're still looking, but when I was feeling icky and sick all the time, my parents ordered a rocking chair, and my husband and I spent the evening putting it together. Having some furniture in our nursery was a welcome distraction and made the 24 hour sickness more bearable.
  • You are so sweet for looking to cheer your wife up. I love thinking up gift ideas for people so your question was right up my alley. Mind you I don't know you or your wife so this is kind of broad but you can obviously pick, choose and tailor what works best for you.

What about a night that's all for her comfort? Tidy up the house, light some candles and put them everywhere, bring her a card and flowers. Then spend the rest of the night pampering her.  Make a homemade dinner of either her favorite food or something very light and gentle on the stomach. Follow up dinner by drawing her a warm bath, those are totally safe for pregnant women as long as the starting temp is no higher than a person's body heat. The water temp will go down as she's in there, the problem with hot tubs is 1) they're usually too hot and 2) they stay that same hot temperature.

Afterwards give her a little gift basket with things like luxury/high quality lotions (coco and shea butter are supposed to great on soothing stretching skin), maybe some new hair or beauty products (I can't tell you how unattractive I've felt on and off during this pregnancy and even something fun and new to play with made me feel a little prettier), a hot pack* she can use on her back, a funny or beautiful pregnancy shirt (a new item of clothing designed for a pregnant body can also make a woman feel much more attractive), the item of jewelry other posters have mentioned, a gift card to a maternity store so she can get more "fitting" clothes later on.

Finish up the night by putting on her favorite movie or bringing her a book/magazines she's currently reading and massaging her feet while she reads/watches. I'd suggest doing this in bed so if she falls asleep you can just leave her there without dragging her off the couch.

*I have been advised not to use heating pads during pregnancy, probably for the same reasons you're not supposed to go in a hot tub (temp can be too hot and doesn't go down). Instead look into something like this: DIY Reusable Rice Heat Pack.

  • Thanks for all the responses.  It seems like my wife has finally gotten through the nausea (just now in week 15).  Her gift that I ordered should be delivered today, but all this feedback will be great for Valentine's Day or any other situations down the road when she feels like crap and I want to try to cheer her up.  Thanks for all the help, ladies!
  • Well OP, MH looked into massages for me, because I've been in so much pain lately. I ruined his surprise, because I started looking into them myself, but I was still so happy he had been looking and deciding about it for me! Also, a pedicure. Pedicures are amazing for mommas who are on their feet a lot and she will heartily thank you for taking her to get one. If she is already transitioning into maternity clothes, go shopping with her and foot the bill. My husband did this a couple weeks ago and it really makes a difference! I can tell you one thing, comfort really is everything! Spoil her in ways that add to her comfort!

  • Jewelry is a girls best friend!!! I think it would be such a cute and memorable idea to get one of those Pandora bracelets with BABY charms.

  • Best gift ever (I was prego in the summer) was a remote control ceiling fan in the bedroom. When I got hot flashes I could just hit a button. I can turn lights on and off without getting up. Lovely! A pre-natal massage would be great as well later in the pregnancy. I began to get back pain as my belly grew bigger.
