Re: I'm sorry.. I had too.. first ''splash the cash'' purchase for baby?

  • I probably won't buy anything until much later on. However, my husband brought back a couple of things from Antarctica (winter hat, toy seal), so I guess that would be our early, unnecessary purchase.

  • My BOB travel system came today. First purchase for the babe. We're Team Green so I can't buy any clothes..I plan on the babe living in onsies anyway, and I'm sure the grandmas will pick up the clothing slack

There are SOOOO many adorable clothes that are gender neutral! We're Team Green and I had no problem picking out the three little sleepers I did. You ought to go sniff around, you'd be surprised what's out there!

Shhh you weren't supposed to tell me this!! I'm using Team green as my excuse to not shop!
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • I find it stresses me out a lot less to purchase as I go, in terms of finances. I still need to get a crib mattress, bassinet, pack and play (MIL is getting that though), some more newborn things and then just the smaller items like a thermometer, lotion, etc.
  • I've brought a few dresses for baby but my nan is going over the top with everything, I had to tell her stop when we were in mothercare the other day or I would of ended up going home with more then I need!. She's so overly excited on becoming a great grandmother.

@C6091‌ I didn't realise you're a fellow UK mama, what shop did you get these from? I was in mothercare last weekend and picked up a lovely dress but it was £19 and the cardigan that matched it was another £14... I put them back! I'm pretty sure if the weathers hot when this LO's born she'll just be in vests most of the time anyways!

Hi, I am yes! :).. I've been using American terminology I suppose so I'm understood better. I'm from Scotland. You?. I love mothercare I spend hours in the place!? We're struggling with pram shopping as my car has a really small boot so we need something that is in budget and fits into the back of my car nicely! :). Did you get your pram yet? :).

How nice that you have your gran with you! I loved my gran so much but she passed away 6 weeks before my wedding- being pregannt is a little less joyful since she isn't around anymore and I know how excited she would have been. Give your gran an extra hug and kiss

    Pram = stroller
    Boot = trunk

From my time in Australia lol. So much slang to be learned when traveling!

As for baby shopping, I would not splurge on a designer outfit for myself let alone my baby that will outgrow it in no time. Haven't bought a thing yet (as we have lots from first pregnancy).

The only splurging I'll most likely do is on necessities: angel care monitor as a loss mom and stroller/car seat etc.

  • @taisree‌, thank you educating me! And I'm so sorry about your previous loss!
  • Got this hat for his first newborn pic......
  • Stupid thing didn't post... Here goes again
  • We bought this LO's crib with our Visa rewards points, so technically not a splurge. However, I just bought 5 pairs of girly "Baby Leggings". We had 5 pairs and LOVED them for DS, and plan to use those with her but since this LO is a girl I decided I could splurge a little and get her some new more girly ones.

  • We splurged on our Stokke Crusi Stroller with the baby bassinet (cot) and the travel bag. Also got an adorable white (since we didn't know the sex yet), sleep sack/carry sack. They are super popular here in the Middle East and are great to keep baby warm and cozy.

For clothes & stuff, we will go bargain shopping. No need to go overboard on items that he will grow out of in no time.

Don't apologize! I love it, and it's nice to hear the different terminology.

If it makes you feel better, I wouldn't stock up too much on gender neutral clothes. I was team green with my first and as soon as I found out she was a girl I wanted girl cute things to dress her in. My gender neutral clothes got very little use! Don't buy too much and then take your cutie once they're born to get some awesome clothes!
  • I have literally bought one thing for this poor, poor third child. We're team green, but I still wanted baby to have a special "coming home" outfit so I got a simple Ralph Lauren kimono top/footie pants set in white. It was like $35. Which is dumb, for a glorified onsie.. and in white, no less. But considering this child will live primarily in hand-me-downs if it's another boy, who cares.

Way back when I was a FTM I splurged on this Burberry knit sweater. I had all these visions of him wearing it at Christmas and for santa pictures, blah blah blah. I literally laugh out loud at my FTM self. So dumb.
I laugh at my FTM self too.  I would splurge on expensive clothes for her and then she would shit all over them. From ass to neck (you know those kinds of shits) and had to throw them out. What fool I was. From then on it was anything from target/carters that was under 10 bucks. The only thing I bought new for #2 was a going home outfit and will probably do the same for #3
  • My local twin group has a FB yard sale page...so I've been going a little crazy on there! For instance, two adorable holiday dresses for $6 or the 9 sleepers for $5! My DH is loving my shopping. I have bought a few new items but they are Target/Kohls deals.

Today I am going to Ikea to get one of those turquoise carts. I'm going to use that for a diaper caddy.

This made me laugh and kind of dread the upcoming months.  There were some accidents so bad that the outfit just got thrown away rather than even try and get the stains out. Cheap outfits were a wise choice.

What car is it you have? We haven't bought the pram yet but we've found the one we want, it's from mothercare and it's a pram that converts to a pushchair and also has a car seat! It's the jane trider and matrix light 2 travel system. I love it! We have a focus so have quite a big boot for it to fit in.

And i'm from the midlands near cambridge :)
I have a little peugeot 107. I've not long passed so need something small! It's great and I love it. Easy to drive and very fuel efficient. But small boot is an issue. I'm obsessed with mothercare, it is so awesome (:

  • @C6091‌ just to get my 10 pence in, i'm not sure what you class as reasonably priced but we have just purchased The Jane Epic travel system from babies R us, it's also available in mothercare for £649.99 it's just like emilyzemily's but has 4 wheels instead of 3 and is smaller and lighter, it's really easy to assemble and figure out too! It fits in my boot and I have a little first year car :)

I know Hauck do a wonderful range of travel systems, I just couldn't be of assistance when it came to letting you know how compact they are folded, hunting is the best part! :)
  • @C6091‌ I know it may not be your style but I was just browsing for a good suggestion and it seems amazon are having a great sale on them at the moment, I typed "Hauck travel system" into the search bar and this is just one of many that came up with a great discount! https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00A2ME9US/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1422573279&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165&dpPl=1&dpID=41oN6z8vJVL&ref=plSrch

I've been driving for 10 years next year, I passed just before I turned 18, feel so old having to renew my licence! Mine was a little P reg and it was a cherry red, I absolutely loved it! I actually saw it parked up down a street round the corner from my SO's last year so it's still going strong! It was a great little car.
I passed October 2014 not long after I got my bfp! Was defo an interesting month haha! I'm 20 :) I turn 21 in June. Two days after my estimated due date! My first car was an MGF. I used it as a learner to get me to test standard :)! Cars are awesome, you build relationships with them :)

  • So far just essential baby stuff like stroller, car seat, crib, and some clothes...oh! We bought baby some nice art for his/her room! Does that count?

Baby June Bug is due June 5, 2015
    [[Our first, our little surprise]]
  • A Dutailier rocker for late nights is the only thing we've paid full price for so far. We've also acquired a second hand BOB running stroller, crib and dresser, from Air Miles we got the Nuna Leaf, Nanny bought a stuffed bunny to fit the winter woodland theme of the nursery and my sister gave us her Fetal Doppler, which is a lot of fun and reassuring on those "feeling off days." Lots more to come, I'm sure.

The Mammas & Pappas Armadillo pram is ment to be amazing and the most compact on the UK market when folded down (they claim it fits in a Fiat boot!) It's modelled on the Bugaboo Bee but it's much higher off the floor and the seat is much bigger (so it should last longer for when baby is a toddler). I was really impressed when they demonstrated it to me - check it out! x
