Bugaboo, Your thoughts?

Everyone in my town has a Bugaboo - everyone!  I don't mind that, but I kinda feel guilty registering for something like that...its so expensive.  There are so many other things we need/want that cost less and will help more.

The frog does appeal to me because it has a bassinet, but I need to buy accessories to form it to a different style.  Are their any other bassinet strollers like the Bugaboo?

Are their any other quality strollers?

I feel like the Bugaboo is the new "fad".  I don't want to buy a "fad" I want to buy a nice quality stroller, not a style.

  • Way too expensive IMO.

  • if you like the bugaboo... look at the peg perego skate.  it's like $200 less and it has the bassinet, which itself is convertible to the astually kid seat (no buying extra parts and chaging stuff out)  also, when you use the car seat part, you can take out the bassinet and just have the frame - making it lighter and easier to move.

  • I dont know anything about a Bugaboo, and I checked out their website, they look a little blah if you ask me... but that's just my op.
  • There are a lot of other quality strollers that don't cost as much. We've researched and looked at the Quinny Buzz, Peg Perego Skate and Maxi-Cosi Foray. All great quality and less money.
  • Yeah, they look great and I am sure they are but they cost too freakin' much...I think there are plenty of other great options out there to choose from. just my opinion....

It looks like a Bugaboo!  Peg Perego has been around since we were babies, its top quality!  Thanks for the recommendation!  Anyone know what Baby Bargins says about it?

  • UPPA baby has a similar stroller.  It's still WAY expensive, but not as expensive as Bugaboo.  I was in a specialty shop, and the owner is a such a good saleswoman--she's showing me everything about it, and I'm nodding my head and thinking, "this thing is so COOL! Wow! How great!"

. . . . . and then I walked outside of the shop and thought, "How on earth can I spend that much money on a stroller?"  I think it depends on where you live, in terms of the usefulness of those types of strollers.  I've heard moms in urban areas find them very useful . . . I'm in a pretty suburban area, and I just don't know if the benefits would justify the costs.

  • We considered it but instead got the Uppa Baby Vista.  Far superior in construction, features etc.  Plus, they are made in the USA rather than china, have never flat tires, all the accessories included.  We love it.

There are other high end strollers to consider before the bugaboo.  Go to a good shop and work with a sales person who can understand your needs and find one that works best for you and DH.

  • no news in BB on the skate... it only came out last year.  we just got one.  check out the post earlier today about peg perego travel system...  a few people commented on it.

  • I like the look of it but I could never justify putting something so FP (fancy pants) on my registry. If I really wanted it, I would get it myself. Check out https://www.strollermama.com/blog/ and the strollerswap yahoo group for more info.

Oh, the Skate came out last year?  I read on BRU that the only major complaint is that its heavy (35lbs).  I will see in store how it feels, because I will be taking it in and out of my car a lot, we don't live in the city.  But the Manuverability is amazing

  • I am thinking about getting a Musty Duo....we have family in Germany who will mail it to us or have it sent.

    I also like the Quinny

  • when it's used as a stroller (ie, no carseat) it is pretty heavy, but then again, all the other ones are like 25 pounds as well.

when it's with the carseat, it's totally light, as you're just using the frame.

  • That's also what I'm looking at and I don't mind spending the money because I will be using it ALOT. We live in a city so we walk everywhere or take cabs/buses/subways. That stroller will be getting a workout so i don't want a cheap flimsy one. I need something solid and that I can collapse and open quickly as we're in and out of taxi's. But I hadn't heard of the Per Perego until this post so I'm going to check out the 'Skate' too.
  • bugaboos are only necessary if you live in a big city like nyc. i think its a complete waste of money and it's just really "fashionable" i feel like alot of people get them because celebrities buy them and it makes you go "hmm they have money" honestly, so many years later, graco is still rated one of the safest companies for baby stuff today!
  • Check out the Orbit Infant System as well. Also expensive but it seems very functional. www.orbitbaby.com.
