Honestly who is drinking?

Re: Honestly who is drinking?

  • Not drinking, but I did have half a Margarita and a glass of champagne at New Year's, and I feel kinda of guilty, even though I had no way of knowing I was pregnant at the time.

  • I personally am not drinking during pregnancy, but I'm not a big drinker anyway and I had stopped drinking caffeine (I had a HUGE Coke problem) for weight loss purposes about 2 weeks before we found out we were pregnant so I was already on to water only with the very occasional Sprite.

I had a glass of champagne for my wedding anniversary when I was in the 3rd trimester with DS. The restaurant brought two glasses of super expensive champagne for free so I drank it. ETA: apparently I am a bad mother for "risking it".

  • I don't even drink when I'm not pregnant but to risk the life of your unborn child for alcohol is so ignorant in my opinion. It's not hard to go 10 months without it for the sake of your unborn baby!
  • I come from a very old fashioned Irish family and I know for a fact everyone in my family drank with their kids except my mom (she isn't from Ireland.) I don't do it solely because there's some alcohol problems in my family & I'm not a huge drinker anyway, but every book I've read and every doctor I have been to has said its fine! If I did, I don't know if I personally would feel comfortable doing it in public because people are so judgy and for some reason as soon as they find out your pregnant they like to tell you what you should and shouldn't be doing! But it's fine if you are having a healthy pregnancy and red wine has lots of benefits that could maybe help if you aren't!
  • There's a difference between binge drinking while pregnant and having an occasional glass of wine. I didn't drink during my first pregnancy because I had major alcohol aversion. I don't yet have that aversion this time. When I'm 9 months pregnant and miserable because I'm 9 months pregnant I may have a glass of wine. Who knows?? I just don't feel like it's a big deal.
  • Whoa man there is some negativity in a few of the responses. I don't really drink to begin with so not doing it during pregnancy isn't a far stretch from how I normally am anyway. I certainly wouldn't judge someone for having a couple of sips of beer or wine at some point during their pregnancy, though. I do stuff that I'm sure some people would love to judge me harshly for (I drink plenty of water but I'm not giving up my sodas, I'm still dying my hair regularly, etc..) I make it a habit to trust a trained and licensed professionals advice over people who just have strong opinions.

  • I got my BFP New Years Eve. Had a glass of champagne, and proceeded to throw it and everything else up. Haven't drank since.
  • One of my best friends loves beer, when she was pregnant she drank o'douls sometimes and i think its a low alcohol or non alcohol, i didnt drink with my first pregnancy but i did drink on two occasions before i found out i was pregnant this time..i was concerned and asked my dr he said not to worry about it at all since it was before i found out and he said it was the safest in the 3rd trimester to have half a glass once a week. But thats just the opinion of my Dr. I would for sure ask yours it may help put your mind to ease. However for myself i wont just to be safe all those signs in all the restaurants paranoid me lol
  • I have rinsed my mouth out once or twice with apple flavored moonshine in the middle of the night. But that's mostly out of habit, and I'm literally using it like mouthwash.

I find it numbs my bad tooth, and makes me less likely to puke. Midnight mouth tastes gross man.

I'm not judgemental myself. Its your body, your baby and your business.

I'm not drinking since ive never b and I'm not cooking with it much either. But I REALLY could kill a man, I'm craving marsala mushrooms and white wine shrimp so bad.
  • I really don't think a drink here and there is a big deal. BUT, as a low income mom-to-be I am painfully aware how easy it would be for CPS to swoop in, on a slight provocation. so for that reason it really isn't worth the risk.
  • I knew you were going to get some strong opinions in here!! I would follow the advice of your dr. If a drink here or there feel right for you then trust yourself. I drank for week 1-3 before I knew over Xmas....also have a good friend who drank moderately through both her pgs and everything was fine. I'll personally wait until after 12 weeks and maybe at weddings/special occasions have a glass.
  • I'm a NICU nurse. I have had one beer during this pregnancy. There are a lot worse things women do while they are pregnant than have one drink. Trust me, I'm a nurse. I've seen it.
  • Everyone says that you can drink wine but a baby is too much of a precious thing too ruin anything good :)
  • My doctor told me that a glass of wine once in while is actually good for you and the baby. She said it helps the blood flow! So I did have a glass but it took me about 3 hours to drink it. Hahaha yes 2 hours and I'm only having it because I love the taste of it!
  • I haven't Touched a drop since I found out but I plan to have a champagne in March when I go to Paris for my 30th and one at my aunties wedding. I love wine and summer cocktails but I've found great alternatives and to be honest only really fancy water at the moment but doctors have recommendations so do what you feel. Women have been having babies for years and seemed to have survived with no guidance! Today I think there is too much pressure and don't do this, don't do that than is needed :-)
  • I am a big drinker. I love my wine. I went a little crazy on New Year's Eve knowing full well that I wasn't going to touch alcohol in 2015 because my husband and I were trying seriously. Two weeks later, I got my BFP. I've heard of and seen people who have had an occasional glass of wine during pregnancy and their babies are fine, but I am a worrier by nature and am trying so hard not to intentionally do anything that could harm my baby. Do I miss it? Sometimes, but shockingly not as much as I thought I would!

Do what you feel is right, I won't judge, but personally I wouldn't risk it.
  • Ohhh get a grip people! Girl a beer isn't going to hurt the babe!

    A beer!
  • Red wine 4 to 8 ounces once a month lol and some times not but my first two girls are perfect :)
  • Nothing since I found out... thing is I had maybe two instances before I knew, where I was wasted.
  • I thought I'd miss alcohol more, but what I REALLY miss are tuna fish salad and deli meat.

Oh my god, I want a tuna sandwich so badly! The weird thing is that I haven't had a tuna sandwich in ages... I usually prefer turkey or something. Figures I'd crave something I shouldn't really be eating.
  • Ummmm, tuna isn't a no no. You can eat 6 oz a week.

If you can't stop eating tuna than you have a problem. (That is what you told me about my sips of beer)
  • Conventional wisdom... What?
OMG Ok you are so right. You are.
  • I know what that means. I just can't believe you just used that.

  • I have had a glass of champagne at a tea party and a glass of wine at a dinner a week later. I just bought a six pack of Rekorderlig cider from Tesco since I can't get it in the US that I plan on drinking 1 at a time later in pregnancy. I don't think an occasional alcoholic beverage in pregnancy is a bad thing. But I'm not a doctor or scientist so can't be sure. I base my opinion only on my limited knowledge of everything in moderation. Except crack of course.
