Essential oils for labor?

If you are an essential oil fan... I personally love doterra :) what oils will you use during birth/childcare? I will be diffusing on guard (immune system blend) and serenity (calming blend) in my hospital room but that's more for the visitors and to keep a calming feeling in the room while protecting it from new germs lol :) ... Anyone else?

Also I realize that if you know nothing about essential oils that it sounds crazy to you until you educate yourself so I get that backlash may come, sadly... But what I'm looking for is if anyone else is planning to use essential oils and what they plan on using!

  • I am someone who uses them, but never considered doing so at birth and I'm not sure if we'd be allowed. Now I'm off to do some research.
  • I honestly don't get how some MLM scheme has made this the new "it" thing. Essential oils have been around for centuries.

For the question at hand, I doubt the hospital staff will allow it.
  • I have a friend who loves them and though I don't plan on diffusing them at the hospital I'll definitely give the clary sage or whichever one is supposed to start contractions a shot if I go over my due date!
  • Good luck actually being allowed to use them in the hospital.

And wow, you sound like a peach
  • I also use them. I don't use boutique brands, I just use Now, so I'm not sure if I qualify.

I honestly don't think they're going to be keen on you bringing a diffuser into the hospital room, but I could be way off... Though, I'm probably not. Also, it's a sterile environment. So, there's that. If you're wanting to use them topically after everything is said and done, I mean, go for it, but you may be met with resistance on the diffusing. That shit travels, and if I was in the room next to you trying to give birth with a bunch of scents wafting around, I might be pretty irritated. I would be extremely shocked if it was allowed.

I am actually a csection momma so I will be having a totally separate room for birth. My hospital does allow them. :) they actually use them in waiting rooms and some patient rooms.
