I think of the soup too but I think of it as a boy name initially. But I think it would be a cute name for a girl. It kind of grows on me the more I think of it.
As many others have said, it reminds me of soup. Besides that association, I've never heard of it as a first name. However, I would say from the sound of it, it sounds more like a boy's name. It's part of your heritage so I understand wanting to use it. Go for it!
I guess I think boy first but I like boys names for girls so I'm not opposed to it for a girl either.

Who cares if it was predominantly a boys name? Think of Cameron Diaz, my friends daughter is called Cameron or just cam for short. If you like it then go for it
I work with a lady that named her daughter Campbell, I must agree though I just think about the soup.....Her son is named Coleman, so then I think about camping gear...
Re: Do you consider "Campbell" a girl or boy name (for first)?
But I like it, and if I saw it written I would lean more masculine than feminine
So excited for Baby #4!
My two boys are getting a surprise May 2015!
