Last night was parent teacher conference at DS's preschool. Not only does he "continue to perform at his developmental age level," but his teacher and his SLP remarked on his growth in maturity since October (his IEP date).
Also, we went to SeaWorld, and despite long, long lines at everything, DS did not get impatient, behaved well, and entertained himself by talking to other little kids or to me.

I only have a little brag. Nate produced an 'f' in speech this week. With his nose plugged though. Plosives and any sounds requiring moving a lot of air forward are still illusive at best.

Checkin: I am trying to stick this one out. I came over here yesterday in a total funk and wanting to reconnect. I am pissed right now. So, I am sorry that I am not able to "Jump ship" on the turn of a card. I am not a fan of the format over there, I am wondering how new blood will get introduced to the SN board over there beyond the people who migrated, and to be perfectly honest I am up to my eyeballs sick of One Direction crap. I can't deactivate anyway since all of the FAQ's are my posts. Those were a lot of fricken work. As long as that content is here, I need to stay here.

yep. it isn't really a controlled blow though, more of a big breath and exhalation. I'd say 60 percent of his speech issues are related to the facial paresis and not to HCC.

I have moved over to the other site, but.....I am not ready to totally give up on this site.......I like that I can talk in paragraphs (typing on Kindle) on the proboards but I like some of the aspects of here better too....I make no attempt to read every post on the boards so for me checking in at both locations is nbd. *paragraph break* I have no real brags other than on Christmas ds2 learned how to make faces while sitting in front of a vanity mirror that my mom placed on the floor and secured to the sofa table behind it.

Are you sure that you checked the right board? The new special needs board doesn't have anything about one direction? It seems like some people who migrated when the nest imploded/some people who lurked here have intro'd. It looks like it will be pretty active. I hate change too but I hope you'll join us.

I have two.

Well the daycare forgot to give some of the holiday gifts DS was suppose to bring home before break. We just got them yesterday and the art work was really cute! I am glad they laminated the art. I will have to put them up next holiday.

Tomorrow, the school will celebrate 100 days of school! (well, it snowed today). The teacher assigned a "100" project and students were to collect 100 items or anything that resembles 100 to school.

We did ours over winter break and celebrated DS's big stuffed turtle's 100 birthday! DS loved it because his special interest is turtles! We turn in the pictures of the party soon! I am excited to hear the teacher's feedback. I admit I had fun, too!

DS (first grade, ASD/ADHD/GAD) completed his FIRST SPELLING TEST OF THE YEAR! They have one every week and he wouldn't even attempted one for months, then his teacher got him to just write the first letter of each word, and this week he came home with an entire test completed. He got every one wrong (missed the vowels) but he got the beginning sounds and end sounds correct, which is all he needs to pass first grade. Phew. I know he has it in him. His handwriting has also improved dramatically since starting meds.

Checkin: I'm straddling, sortof. I don't like the format of proboards, but I certainly have no allegiance to TB. I understand the angst over 1D- the gif's and whatnot in the siggys are enough to make my eyes roll out of my head. But, I appreciate all the good advice and diversity of experience. I'm usually feeling like a complete hot mess of a parent and these boards really help reign in my own anxiety and focus on what's needed with regards to DS.

Had to post this while I was thinking of it....I picked up ds2 to relocate him after he started crawling away and he was moving his hand.....took me a second to realize he was signing milk....gave him some and he downed it in no time.
