Baby Girl Middle Name Debate!

Ok DH and I are trying to narrow our baby girls name choices down. We FINALLY agreed on two choices for a first name, but he brought up an interesting idea for the middle name: Neal (my dad's middle name is Neal). I have googled and searched but have found zero times this was used for a girl. Would it be too weird? I'm not opposed to it, but I'm not quite sold either..

Re: Baby Girl Middle Name Debate!

  • I think it could be cute paired with a more feminine first name. Especially given the meaning behind it.

  • Well Kimberly was the name he suggested it paired with so it definitely would be a feminine first name!
  • It's a nice idea but unless this is your last baby I'd probably save it for a boy.

Alternately, you can do a female variant, if one exists. Or Lane has the same letters as Neal, but I don't know how far you're willing to stray from the original name.

  • While I don't think I'd personally want to use Neal and it's a bit odd, I don't think it'd be a terrible choice, personally. There's a long history of boys' names being used for girls and then turning into girls' names over time.

Maybe keep it as a back burner idea but keep thinking about other options? And if you can't find anything you like better, go with it?
  • I like Neal, as PP said it could be cute paired with a more feminine name, and boyish girl names are popular at the moment.
But anyway, there's also the female equivalent, Neala, which is very pretty and girly and not so common.
  • I think it could work. I like honoring family members with names!

A/S findings: Baby is a girl! EIF found on heart :( but maternit21 came back neg for chromosome disorders!!

  • We are using a male middle name with a feminine first. Maci James. I like Neal and the meaning behind it!
  • I like the idea of honoring a family member, and as a middle name I wouldn't side eye Neal. I really like PPs suggestion of Lane. It's more feminine but used the same letters.

  • @Jaileewin‌ my niece is named Gracie James!

I like the idea of switching the letters around, never thought about that! I had actually suggested Lane at some point along the line, guess I never realized it was the same letters just switched around.
