Those who have had a LEEP, or bed rest threat

I know that there was a discussion back in October regarding LEEP procedures, but I'm wondering how those whom have had them are progressing? I am a FTM and had the procedure around 7 years ago. My cervix has shortened a wee bit... Anyone else? Or has anyone been given bed rest restrictions?

I have not been put on bed rest with this pregnancy but was with DD. It was for preterm labor. I wasn't allowed out of bed except short periods of time for bathroom breaks, showers, to walk around short periods to avoid being overly sore or bed sores. My sister just had the LEEP procedure last year and is now expecting. She is 7 months but has been lucky in that her cervix has not shortened any. She is not on bed rest but her doctor is keeping a close eye on it. There are concerns about the baby's weight and whether she will be able to have a vaginal delivery. ( Her baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead....she and I both agree her due date is wrong based off her cycle dates. Instead of going by her actual last period they are going by 2 day period of her spotting a few weeks after the period which we both believe was implantation bleeding.) Her doctor has said that if the baby is over 8lbs then she will schedule her for a c-section to reduce cervical tearing.

  • I had one also about 7 years ago. I'm a STM, delivered first at 39 weeks. So far, no restrictions. I do expect to go early, but I don't think it has anything to do with the LEEP- just genetics. My mom delivered early and with my daughter my water broke and she came super fast. So just my guess.

I had a LEEP a little over a year ago, all is going fine I've had two cervix measurements and both were "long and closed" (3.8) so for now I am not having any extra monitoring.
  • Thank you for the replies!! Keeps me hopeful I can ride this out bed rest free! Does anyone still partake in excercize?

  • I was in my first pregnancy. Daily- sometimes twice daily. I'm not this time around because I had bleeding early in the pregnancy and contractions for weeks now, so doctor told me not to exercise. Keeping up with a 2 year old and being a nanny for 3 more all day is enough activity.
  • I had a leep about 2 years ago and also have had two measurements. So far both have come back long and think and they aren't seeming concerned that it will become an issue. My dr and consulting dr who did the actual leep both said most who end up with an issue are the ones who have a "cold knife" procedure done. You get put under in the hospital and they have to take more.
  • I had a leep a few years before my DD. No complications during the pregnancy but when I finally went into labor it was horrifyingly painful. When I was admitted they told me I had not dilated at all because of scarring on my cervix. Before they would give me an epidural the doctor ripped the scar tissue out (yes, that was as awful as it sounds) I dilated to 4 immediately. The rest went smoothly at least as far as the scarring was concerned. They tell me it will not be an issue this time.
  • PP- That is my worry...not dilating.
  • I had a leep done after the birth of my fourth so this is the only pregnancy where it's been a concern of mine.  I've had a couple of cervical length checks and although my cervix has shortened some from the first and second scans, it's not short enough to be an issue and it's still closed.  I go back every two weeks to have it checked.

I did a frozen embryo transfer to get pregnant this time around and my doc had no trouble getting through my cervix so I'm just assuming scarring/dilation won't be an issue.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
